FAQ'S
Can I test ride a bike?
We are a direct-to-consumer company both in pricing and strategy. You will generally pay a premium for the ability to test ride. Due to our direct to consumer pricing strategy, we do not have nationwide dealer partnerships. There are some very helpful videos on YouTube reviewing the bike and detailing a closer look.
Can I upgrade the battery?
Upgraded batteries are available, but ONLY as a separate purchase.
What can I expect ordering a bike from Ride1UP?
This article will explain all about what to expect when ordering a bike from us. Ordering With Us
Can you ship to _______?
We only ship within North America. The Continental United States is FREE. Hawaii and Alaska is $190. Shipping to Mexico and Canada is $100. We are not responsible for any additional tariffs charged by your local government which often times applied after importing. Unfortunately, we are not able to ship our bikes directly to Europe. You can use a shipping forwarder like ShopUsa.com to reach your country.
Can I switch the handlebars to another model?
No. The variations you see on the site are the only options we have.
Are the bikes water-proof?
The bikes are not water-proof, they are water-resistant, rated IP-65. While we do not recommend leaving the bikes out in the rain or riding in the rain or other hazardous conditions due to personal safety, the bikes can handle water exposure.
What is the realistic top speed?
We made gearing changes to our newest models and all models are now capable of 28mph pedal assist speeds.

Awesome product! Rode it for 30 miles so far and it says the battery is still at basically full charge. Looks amazing and works like a dream, and yet the price tag is one of the lowest I could find. Highly recommend.

I can fully recommend this bike for anyone buying an E-bike. It has more than enough power to get up the only Hill in Long Beach, Ca. , and it arrived in flawless condition. Quality parts and it is brings a sly smile to my face, especially when I see the hard core Trex/Canondale guys sweating up the same hill! Kevin and Alex got in contact me with regarding the Covid-19 back ordering, and I am pleased with my decision to wait the extra months for this bike. Fully recommend it to all, and best of luck to Kevin, who will probably take more of my money for that Roadester V.2 coming down the line!

Ahhh…, it finally arrived… Well worth the wait.
This is my first e-bike, and It’s a nice looking, solid unit.
It’s a good example of how form + function = success!
The shipping container was well made and solid too.
I watched the YouTube assembly video and put it together it in about 2.5 – 3 hours. I will have a lot of fun with it.
    Thank you.

    F A S T!
Had to wait 1 month for delivery, only because a dragged my feet in ordering. Owner Kevin and also Alex were the deciding factor in my buying. After several text messages, they were patient and answered all (usually the same day) it’s a great bike, like I said fast, wasn’t expecting that . It’s a great looking bike, once you get on it you don’t want to get off. I hadn’t ridden a bike in 5-6 years, had i known it was going to be this much fun i would’ve bought sooner.
My only complaint is that my 500 is rather heavy. I’ve only put 50 miles on it the 3 weeks that I’ve owned it because it’s been so darn hot lately. Can’t wait to get back out there!

Great bike for the price- I had to replace the seat for a wider and softer one as well as buy a suspension post but that is mainly because I am 240 pounds. I get 20 miles riding on flat ground but I think that is good given my weight and running mainly on 6 pas.

I purchased the 500 series and have no regrets. It gets me where I need to go and the battery lasts the trips. I bought it as both a recreational activity and as a transportation alternative; which was a great investment becusse even if you apply for the monthly payment plan, it’s still cheaper than NYC’s monthly bus/train fare. My only complaint (which isn’t really a complaint) is that its unique design gives off the appearance that it’s not your average eBike, which intrigues people and starts conversations, and I don’t really like attention lol.

My wife’s newfound freedom on the bike is priceless. She’s ridden it 6 out of the 7 days since she’s gotten it, and wants to keep that up. The ONLY complaint is the mechanical disc brakes. I do understand that hitting a price point is a big deal in today’s market. But I’ve already bought the Tektro Hydraulics with bigger discs. The mechanical brakes make a pretty unpleasant noise and they barely feel up to the challenge of stopping the bike. And, for my wife, who isn’t the more confident rider, this is a big penalty in confidence. All that being said, I LOVE the bike. The cafe handlebars make her body comfy on the bike in the way she hasn’t been since she owned a vintage schwinn as a kid (she was a kid in the 80’s, but owned a 50’s Schwinn). She literally had streaming tears of joy about how this was the first bike that fit her like that one. (Which was discarded by her A-hole stepdad when she went to college – huge loss) So yeah, we’re super happy, and I don’t mind doing the upgrade to the brakes. We’re also going to get the frame powder-coated a color more to her liking in the winter. 🙂

My only complaint at this point is I find the hand throttle is awkward and somewhat uncomfortable to use. I thought it was going to be a full handle throttle like a scooter, which I prefer over a thumb control. In this case I would find the thumb control to be easier to use.

I received my 500 series bike a few weeks ago and I think it’s pretty cool! Having never even rode a e bike before I wasn’t sure what to expect. This bike doesn’t disappoint! After doing some research I decided to go with Ride1Up because of a few things. An American company, one year warranty and all of the good reviews about their customer service. Speaking of customer service, the bike arrived and was somehow missing the left crank arm. Also there was some damage to the cone spacer for the front fork tube. I emailed support with my problem and they got back to me a couple hours later saying they would send out the parts. Well, I couldn’t wait to get this bad boy out to ride so I was able to find a crank arm at a local bike shop. Emailed again to tell them I had found a replacement and Kevin then contacted me, refunded the price of crank and sent out a new spacer. Like I said, customer service was one of the reasons I chose this company and I was not let down. Thanks Ride1Up!

I purchased a 500 series last june and have logged 1400 trouble free miles on it since. When you buy 1 e bike you find out quickly that you need at least 2 so I just purchased another. I like the upgraded tires on the new 500 as well as the fact that the upgraded computer comes standard. And as always, the customer service with this company is second to none I’ve had several friends borrow the e bike and all of them have ended up buying one. They’re just so much fun that they have replaced my car for running to the store and local errands as well.

What a fun bike! Does everything as advertised. Only one thing bad: the pedals are really cheap junk. Will be replacing with Race Face Chesters– $35 including shipping. Ride1up supplied pedals spin with great resistance and little grip (foot slipped off today just riding a hill on pavement). Took them apart and can not adjust them (bearing was press fit). Can get the Ride1Up pedal on ebay for $18. Would be better to sell the bike without pedals because these are going into the junk bin.
Otherwise quite pleased with the bike!

Ride1UP is my first foray into the world of electric bikes. Coming from a few years of cycling for fun, most recently riding fixed gear, I needed something that was more commute friendly, and didn’t feel like a punishment every time I went for a ride. Boy did this bike deliver! I recently received my 500, and get blown away every time I get in that saddle. I used to average 11mph on my fixed gear commute rides, and now I can easily cruise at 24mph without breaking much of a sweat. This bike clearly takes the fun of riding, and amplifies it. I look forward to incorporating it more and more in my commuting routine. I’ve found that biking to work has me arrive at my desk way less stressed out than traffic and parking hassles. I also look forward to getting home knowing I’ve gotten that breath of fresh air prior to handling the chaos that is home with young kids.
The bike came so neatly packed! I’ve bought and assembled bikes before, and I was really impressed with how much protective material was applied to the packaging to make sure it got to me in tip-top shape. Assembly was a breeze, following youtube directions from Ride1UP.
Some upgrades I have now or on the way: upgraded rear rack to the IBERA Bike Touring Carrier Plus+ Rack DISK BRAKE (IB-RA5) easily found on Amazon. I already had 2 panniers and one trunk bag that fit this rack from a previous bike, so it was a no brainer to turn it into a commuter. To mount it, I used the M-Wave Seat Post Clamp with Rack Mounts, 31.8mm, Black. This seat clamp also removes the quick-release functionality of the original seat post, in case you’d prefer to have your seat post/saddle not disappear after parking your bike.
I’m about to add Tannus Armour inserts between the innertubes (ordered new thinner ones from Kenda to comply with those) and tires to reduce the possibility of punctures.
When I think of my 500, I keep telling myself how “zippy” it is. I love being able to effortlessly keep up with traffic, and get to where I’m going almost as fast as I would in a car, especially for local errands, but with the added fun factor.

This is a first impression review. The box showed up in much better condition than expected, based on other reviews. Hardly a scratch. I took the bike out of the box by myself, not particularly easy but doable; it is snuggly packed. Put the bike together by myself. Watched assembly video once thru, then again in steps as I progressed. The gears indexed as expected. Disk brakes needed no adjustment. I couldn’t believe it. Will probably take it in for a tune-up after a few miles. It took about one trip down the block and back to get accustomed to the electric assist, and the various levels. This is going to make riding our hilly terrain fun again.

I used to be very active: hiking, biking, skiing. About 1.5 yrs ago I got hit with a medical condition that put me in bed. Am just getting to where I can walk more than just to the end of the block and back every other day. May have rushed things getting the e-bike, but think it will help recovery. I have no immune system, and think it will help distance from people, while getting fresh air and exercise. Did opt for the cafe handlebars for a more upright position, and like it so far. Maybe should have gotten step-thru frame to make getting on and off easier, but just couldn’t. Will have to be careful. Overall, I couldn’t be more pleased.

We got this for my husband who’s had 2 back surgeries. He absolutely loves this bike. We just went for a 14 mile ride that would have been impossible with his other bike. He pedals on the flats and uses the power for the hills. The only thing that he has an issue with is the handlebars are a little low so he’s going to get an extension for that but that’s a minor issue.
It was actually delivered a few days before we were expecting it.
One other thing is the instructions. They were kind of minimal but we figured it out. All in all, it was a great buy. Customer service was also excellent.

Purchased a 500 on Friday March 27th and it was delivered in Minnesota on Wednesday April 1st. I haven’t worked on a bike since I was a kid in the 60’s but I managed to put this one together in about an hour and a half and it works great. The bike exceeds expectations on the quality of build and its performance. Weather in MN has been nasty so I only have a few miles but so far I am pleased with my purchase. I did my homework online, compared components, price, reviews, and even stopped at a local bike shop to look over their selection. I believe Ride1Up offers a very good produce at an unbeatable price.

after owning the 500 city series for over and month and putting over 500 miles on it I feel comfortable leaving a review. This thing rocks! pure and simple! I multi-modal commute to work 22 miles r/t a day and LOVE my commute even more now that I finally pulled the trigger on my new glorious steed. My honest to God only regret was that I did not pull the trigger sooner!! Bike arrived in 4 or 5 business days (i am an east-coaster) and was in absolute perfect condition (shocking seeing as it was delivered by Fed-Ex who has a history of not so gentle handling with my packages) my full commute trip of 22 miles r/t usually ends me at home with about 30-40% battery left using PAS 5-6 and all communications with Kevin and company makes me wish I could give me 26 stars instead of only 5. Definitely do not regret purchasing. For the money you will be hard pressed to find a better deal. As has been said no, this bike does not have top tier parts, but you are not paying top tier prices. What it does have is good solid reliable parts that makes this bike overall a bargain.

I absolutely LOVE my new Ride1up 500 series ebike! Love it! Got the beautiful “ gold edition “ and one thing real quick is the saddle, it’s actually very comfortable! Like I don’t even think about it. That’s how comfy it is. I’m so glad I found this bike. It has made riding a bicycle possible for me again! After three knee surgeries I just can’t push hard with my left leg anymore which makes riding a bike pretty much impossible ( at least for any distance at all) now with my new 500 the only thing limiting me is the battery! I had totally forgotten how much fun riding a bike is! I still can’t believe I got this much bike at this price! I was about to pull the trigger on a bike with far less features and power to stay within my price range and then I found the 500! I got a powerful 500w motor, a 48v battery, Tektro disc brakes, shimano acera derailleur, a throttle, 27.5” wheels, Kendra tires, extra thick spokes on both rims, and it looks like a million bucks too! One thing that I really, really like is that I can go straight to ride1up for additional parts and upgrades! If I want or need an extra battery they have them and at a great price as well. I mean they have a 17ah, 48v, reention dorado battery for $399! What a great deal. Great bike! Great deal! I love it! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Can’t imagine I’ll ever need to go anywhere else for my ebike needs. Thank you Ride1up for making a great bike at a great price!

Pretty cool bike, I’m still testing it under the rough conditions of Mexico City, but so far, so good.
I’ll be using it for a 24Km daily commute (12 each sense). I used to have a super powerful scooter who was basically destroyed by the bumps and holes and some crashes with drivers of this crazy city. Therefore I choose now a powerful e-bike with big pneumatic wheels, effective breaks and a decent suspension without sacrificing speed and convenience.

So, you guys are under a rough test (hehe), and I’m happy to be the guinea pig.

Regarding the import process to Mexico, it was super easy. I paid via Paypal the amount, you send it via FEDEX, they took charge of all the customs and import processes, and when they brought me the bike, the called me to charge me (via phone) something around USD 60.- of import taxes.

The box was a bit mistreated and a couple of screws and nuts had come out of their packaging, but all was there and had no problem to assembly the bike with the YouTube tutorial (it took me about 90 mins, but I’m not expert at all).

If in the future a Mexican guy asks for the details of the import process, I’ll be happy to share with him the details of my experience.

    Thanks for all
    Vicente

The bike itself is great value for a 500W class 3 ebike. There’s an annoying 3 second delay from starting pedaling until the pedal assist kicks in, but you can overcome that by pressing the throttle when starting from a standstill.

    Downsides:
    – the shifter is sticky, I’ll have to disassemble it to fix it.
    – I paid extra for the version with fenders and a rack… I wouldn’t recommend paying for those. The fenders are both a bit too narrow for the 2.2″ tires, and the front fender rubs. Just buy the basic bike and add your own fenders and a seat-post rack.

It’s been 3 months now and I have 0 regrets about this purchase. It rides so smooth. I always have it on the highest setting and I can pedal continuously 23mph with ease. I’ve reached up to 28mph while going downhill. The brakes stop me right away without any skidding forward. The battery lasts me about 2 full days of riding which is exceptional since I always have it on its highest setting. Having different gears makes biking up those hills even easier and also puts less strain on the battery and motor. If you’re not on the right gear when you’re going uphill you can definitely feel and hear it. Windy days is what makes normal biking for me so dreadful but now they’re easy.

I got the one with the fenders and the rear rack also and everything fits on perfectly. The seat was difficult to adjust its angle but that seems to be a problem for me with every bike I have. The only complaint I have is that it definitely does not stand as upright as it shows in the picture. With the bike stand that it comes with, it’s definitely more slanted but that’s such a small complaint compared to what you’re getting that it’s not worth docking anything.

The bike is a bit larger than expected, definitely not a complaint, as more of an observation. This is actually great because it makes me more noticeable with cars. I don’t understand how to use the front light on the bike that it comes with. I’ll probably dig for more information on that soon. I do use a front light, just not the one that it comes with.

With COVID-19 potentially becoming a problem in the United States, I have been using my regular bike a lot more to get more of a workout and to help improve my overall health but I still use this ebike on days that are extremely windy, days that I’m just not feeling well, days that I pushed myself a lot the previous day from exercising and on days that I go grocery shopping.

I would heavily recommend this ebike to anyone in the market for one. I was going to get a Rad Power Bike but this one was more affordable, I could also use Affirm monthly payments (which I did and I really appreciate it) and I don’t particularly enjoy biking on 26-inch tires which is what Rad Power Bikes use. So when I saw that Ride1Up bikes use 27.5″ tires, I was sold.

It might also help to know that I do live a car free life in the suburbs and having an ebike is extremely helpful to keep this life going. I really like all the fresh air and sunlight I get, the cross training I can get with an ebike, how it helps with recovery after workout days, and how it helps the environment and saves me a lot of money from monthly car payments, gas, car insurance, routine maintenance and when it eventually breaks down. Plus commuting to work and other places has become a lot more enjoyable. I’m just happier. I think it’s because biking forces me to live more in the moment.

So, if you’re looking to live a car free life, I would 100% suggest getting an ebike (and have a regular one as well though for those really rainy days) and you couldn’t have found a better ebike than this at an actual reasonable, respectable price.

My Bike arrived In early February, but due to weather I wasn’t able to take it out until last week. The battery doesn’t appear to last as long as advertised and this morning I woke up to find the front wheel had come off due to a bolt falling off at some point. This was disconcerting as assembly through the recommended company cost nearly one hundred dollars

Guaranteed to put a smile on your face. As an avid cyclist, the human-powered kind, I have been studying the E-bike market for some time now trying to weigh the pros and cons of what is an ever-growing field of entrants into this burgeoning market. Balancing price to performance and product quality the Ride1Up 500 Series gives good bang for your buck as an entree into the field. If you’ve been thinking about getting an E-bike do it now, you will not be disappointed. Oh, and the shipping is amazing. I ordered it on Monday and got it on Tuesday – two hours later, after assembly, I was out on the road with a huge smile on my mug.

I ended up buying one for me and my wife. I spent a great deal of time looking for the “Best Buy” and am very pleased with my purchase. My wife is 5’4″ and cannot flip her leg over the back rack so I had to take the rack off. It should get easier for her as she get used to the bike. I have 40+ miles on my first charge with at least 40% battery left mostly using Pedal Assist Levels 3 to 5 depending on terrain. One can still get a workout even though you have the pedal assist settings. Setup was simple with the second bike taking half the time as the first.

This is my second Ride1Up bike. I didn’t think I could love it anymore than the first, but the euro style is wonderful. I’m an older rider and I ride it from home to work and back almost every day which is about 22 miles. I love the comfort of the upright riding position. I added mirrors, an adjustable stem and a cushioned seat post. I wish these items where accessories available on your website and I think the left pedal arm should be installed at the factory, but overall this bike is one of the best bargains on the internet!

Through weeks of research on the various types of e bikes and price points, including feed back on questions asked of several companies, I decided on Ride 1 up and after my first contact was convinced that these guys were in it for the long haul. Very friendly and professional.
Took the bike in box to a dealer friend of mine and had him assemble the 500 series for me. Have already ridden every day for last week and even a few buddies of mine have taken out for a new bike experience. Very impressed!!! I’m 75 years old and had pretty much given up on riding, even though my passion and desire was not lacking. The e bike has given me new life in a sense that with the assist of this model and ease that it gives me, plus the looks I get from the kids in our neighborhood. It’s one cool machine. The way I ride still, without too much assist, I can go 10 miles and not loose 1 bar on battery. Fantastic. Changed out cassett for one that Kevin recommended 11/34 tooth. Can go to the end of peddle assist level 25+ mph without going crazy. Love it , thank you Kevin and ride 1 up. You guys are going to do well.

Brake like was in a bad location and was being affected by the metal on the chain pedal. Other than that after tuneup and taking pedal guard off so brakes won’t mess up. It is a good bike for the price so far!

I’m floored by the value of the 500. I recently moved and needed an e-bike for commuting 10 miles (each way) to work. My ride to work has about 1500 feet of climbing and I wasn’t crazy about commuting on my road bike. My 500 eats the hills and spits out smiles. My first ride, I rode in variations of the PAS, mostly in Level 6, but a few sections of Level 3. I got almost 25 miles out of the battery and still had a bit of juice left (about two bars). I weigh almost two bills and had full panniers and easily climbed a few 7-10% grades that last about a half mile. My 500 works perfectly for my commuting plans.

This was my first E-Bike purchased, and I’m glad I bought the 500 series. The box did arrived with a hole near the rear derailleur. But thanks to that metal plate they put, the bike was fine. The bike came in 90% assembled. You just need to put on the handle bars , suspension fork , and the front tire and your ready to go. I did have to adjust the front disk brake ,due to mis-align. I have no experience with bike repair so it did take me a while. I also had to realign the rear derailleur, which was also easy… just looked up YouTube videos. I like that ride1up also uses mid-tier quality parts and not the cheap stuff with their bike. The bike feels solid when finished built and doesnt feel like it fill fall apart.

Overall I’m happy with the outcome. This thing is fast and alot of fun… and I would definitely recommend this bike to anyone who is looking to take that next step in the E-biking world. WORTH EVERY PENNY.

Sleek looking, great handling, 55 miles on my first charge.

I love the way this bike looks with the semi integrated battery, nice sleek lines and angular frame. Makes me think of some kind of futuristic military vehicle. On my first charge, I wanted to see what kind of range I could get, so I used mostly level 3 (our of 9), with occasional bursts of throttle for the hills here. The battery was exhausted at exactly 55.0 miles, which I think is outstanding for only a 500 Whr battery. Handling is excellent, feels lighter and more refined than some of the more well known budget bikes I tried.

One thing I really appreciate, is that it is relatively easy to pedal with no assistance. Kevin had told me this in a phone call, and I can confirm it. I think I could extend the range to 70 miles, if I did more PAS level 0 on the flats. Also, it gives me confidence that I can make it home on a depleted battery.

The motor has good acceleration and climbing ability (I am 6’1″ and 195 lbs). I would prefer a 11-32 freewheel, but will wait awhile before I make any change there. I ordered it with the straight, riser bars, which had me too leaned over, so I replaced with some mustache bars and a 60 degree adjustable stem, both from Amazon, and this works great for me. I did not have to change out any of the cables.

As Electek’s review said, this is an amazing value in this segment. So far, two of my friends tried it out and they want one too.

I picked up the bikes from the local bike shop today. Took one for a ride today. So far, I love it! Rides well and lots of power. I read thru the manuals. I would like to have had more description of when and why you recommend ( and recommend against) the various display adjustments (other than the obvious ones). One other suggestion: I had a couple of items scratched during shipment ( and read reviews of this being common). Perhaps packing could be improved, including beefed up hand slots on the container ( FedEx have torn most of them by the time they arrived).
But I think your product and customer service is great andI would recommend your product to my friends.

Here I go !! This beauty (500 ride1up) it’s been really good to me I used to put 180 miles (ca. 289,682 m) a week even the rain can’t stop me ! This bike its dinamic, confortable for a long ride 18 miles (ca. 28,968 m) to get to work charge over there and back home. I had been saving a lot of money with this bike when I go to the beach no more pay for park and no wait fo traffic it’s nice to see a big line of cars waiting and pass over it like king of the road ! I’m on fort Lauderdale (flat) except for the bridge to get to beach. I’m truly recommended this.bike There are some cons in this bike to for example the tires are to weak they get wholes a lot u have to change the back wheel for a better one.and u will be alright, the hardware of the seat its weak , after you run out of juice (battery) the bike its heavy so make sure u calculate the miles of ur destiny.
Before I bought my bike I did my research with different s brands … but I’m so happy to had chosen Ride1Up and thanks foe making a great bike the price its nothing in compare all the money u will be saving!!

Bike arrived in good condition, took it to my bike shop for assembly and checkout. The shaft from the front forks was slightly too long resulting in a little play in the handlebars. I enjoy the bike. I’ve ordered 2 series 500 bikes and they work great. My largest peeve is that both bikes have come with some sort of damage. The company has been fast at replacing the items both times however it would be preferable if that wasn’t an issue from the start. The bike is fast and is built like a tank. It would seem that the bike is an 11/10 itself, the only problems have been with the unboxed item itself.

I had some questions while assembling the bike. Your responses were very quick and resolved the problems that I had. The only minor issues are that you provided wrenches except for tightening the pedal bracket. I had to buy a 5/16 wrench to tighten it. Also the seat cannot be adjusted to a horizontal position. It always points downwards. In this position one tends to be pushed forward towards the handlebar. Do you offer an optional seat that can be adjusted?

Hi. I’m a retired vet. I spent 3 years watching tv. I’m at mile 400, I’ve lost 18 pounds, and I ride my bike every day. This bike is more fun for me than the high-end ebike I first rented. I’m HEAVY. I started at 264. This bike has held my weight, and I get massive miles out of it. I put 40 miles on it today in peddle assist 3 of 9. If you’re looking for a bicycle that helps you when you want, and doesn’t when you want. This is your bike. If you’re looking for a motorcycle this isn’t it. Although in do smoke every ebike I’ve ridden next to. The peddles and gearing REALLY speed you up in a way my friends, and family just can’t keep up with. I can do about 28 on a nice flat, and have had it to 50 on a down hill. I average 12 miles in hour as in usually at peddle assist 3 of 9. I’m super happy with my bike. Every stupid question I can ever think of, ride1up gets back to me in 10 mins. Even on labor day. I have been really impressed with the customer service.

I Ordered my 500City on Tuesday morning and received it 3 days later. I wanted an e-bike to commute to and from work approximately 12 miles round trip. There was minimal damage to the box however, the usual complaint that the derailleur was damaged rang true in my case as well. It was very minimal. My derailleur was not screwed on all the way and came off during my test ride. I was able to tweak it back to normal with little effort. I wish I could engineer a cost effective way to protect both sides of the bike that seem to ride right against the box and tend to be subject to damage. I’d make thousands.. Back to the review. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I researched e-bikes for a couple months and honestly, the other reviews of this company/bike finalized my decision to make the plunge. The bike is a perfect blend of less is more. I also want to mention how nice it looks. The price is worth every bit of what you get. Assembly was easy. I am 170 lbs @ 5ft 11 and the fit is perfect. Not sure what else to say other than I have approx 40 miles on it so far. I did buy the digital display and the longest ride so far, with pedal assist @ 9, was 25 miles. While riding, I find myself chuckling at how great and fun riding this bike is. Thank you, Happy Customer!

I’m 54 and have been riding a conventional road bicycle to work once a week for the last two months. My rationale was simply combining some exercise with a reduction in my carbon emissions. I have been rather enjoying the experience and purchased the 500 City with the aim of reducing the commute time, such that I might try for bicycle commutes twice a week. I love the 500 City! While it makes little difference on the downhill stretches it just blasts up the uphill sections and allows me to maintain a steady 25-26mph on level stretches. I am fairly fit and used to average about 64 minutes for a 13 mile round-trip commute with some hills in places. The 500 has cut the time to 41 minutes and I still (choose to) get a good aerobic workout along the way. The 500 makes the ride even more fun than before as the least enjoyable parts, a painfully slow low gear grind up the hills, have been replaced by a powered sprint up the same hills. On the flat I am now traveling so much faster that fewer cars pass me in town, and that makes me feel a good bit safer. While the 500 was much more affordable than other electric bikes it feels really solidly built. I bought an extra charger to recharge the battery at work, but this was quite unnecessary as I still have 5 of 5 “bars” of charge on the battery when I arrive at work, and that’s using “high assist” the entire 6.5 mile journey. I thought about assembling the bike myself but took it to a bike mechanic and he put it together for $70. In my eyes that was money well spent, as I am not a tinkerer and would have taken three times as long to get the job done.

During shipping, the front tire of the bike left a large scratch in the frame. I sent an email to support and heard back the same day with the offer to send a decal to cover and seal the scratch from rusting. I am very pleased with the quick response of support and the quality of my bike! I would highly recommend Ride 1up!

Installed fairly easily, it rides and looks great!
    I’m overall very happy.
    No problem with hills.
I’m glad I chose Ride1Up over other brands.
Deducted one point because there was a scratch on the paint.
Still, I would buy again. Best bang for the bucks right now.

I love this bike so much! I bought this bike to do my 10-mile, mostly uphill, commute to my office job. I ride in my office attire (shirt, tie, khakis), throttle the whole way (with some light peddling to assist the throttle during acceleration and on some hills), and arrive at my office with just the lightest bit of (not noticeable) sweat.

With two commutes under my belt so far, it takes about 43 minutes – that’s quicker than taking the car when there’s heavy traffic, and I think I’ll be able to shave that down a little as I get used to it! There were some pretty significant hills that I was able to cruise up with no issue.

For my ride home, I change into workout clothes and get some exercise by riding this like a normal bike, (with just the occasional throttle on the very steep hills I can’t handle).

I researched eBikes extensively as a good alternative to a car for many driving trips – particularly commuting and short trips around town. With no gas/insurance needed, it’s a very affordable option (when compared to buying a second car or a motorcycle). I did a lot of research and chose Ride1Up over the similar Aventon Pace 500. They are similar in speed, battery life, and ability to use a throttle, but Ride1Up won me over with its lower price, it having a front suspension (a lifesaver when you hit a pothole!), and it’s rear tire being significantly easier to change in event of a flat! Before buying, Kevin, the owner, was extremely helpful and responsive to my emails and various questions.

This has freed up the car for my wife (and toddler) during the week, given me some much-needed exercise (and using my commute, I don’t need to carve out of my very limited free time to do so!), has been a joy to ride and a great way to start my day (rather than being stuck in traffic!), and a nice environmentally-friendly replacement to much of my car usage!

    Highly recommended!

Bottom line: Great Bike, love the upright sitting position. Unfortunately, I got a defective motor initially. Kevin and 1up worked to correct the situation, but this made the setup much more complicated for me.
Full story: My bike arrived with damaged packaging, and some minor cosmetic damage to the fork and one of the brakes. I put it together following the instructions and videos online and everything went relatively smoothly. I turned on the power to take it for a ride, but the motor gave me trouble right away. After a brief (and noisy) push from the motor, it refused to engage again no matter the assist level, or throttle. I emailed Kevin and got a prompt reply. Because of my description of the problem, he had me do some remote trouble-shooting that included removing the controller from the frame and disconnecting the brake cut-offs. This did not fix the problem. At that point I had the option of a full refund, or a new bike. The prospect of repacking and mailing the bike back didn’t appeal to me. Kevin offered to send out a new rear-wheel assembly that included a new motor. I agreed and the rear-wheel arrived about a week later. Kevin also offered to have the swap-out done at a bike shop, but I choose to try it myself since I figured I needed to know how to change the rear tire in the event of a flat. After watching several videos that Kevin suggested, I was able to successfully complete the swap and get the bike working. I have 1 ride under my belt and am very pleased with the bike now that it is working properly.
The whole process took way more effort on my part than I had bargained for. In hindsight I wish I had taken the whole thing to a professional mechanic from the start. I got unlucky with defective motor, but I am still exited about the bike. Kevin was pretty helpful and strove to make things right.

I’m a middle-aged guy in decent shape with mild arthritis in knees. I live in a relatively dense neighborhood and needed wheels for errands and short trips. I don’t need a bike to commute to work in a busy downtown (bus & subway). I have not used a bike for over 7 years.

I live on a budget so the bike is a big investment. I hope to use it for many years to get full value. I decided to buy the 500 Series City bike although nervous about buying online, sight unseen, with delivery promised in a month. (Needless to say my lady gave me a lot of guff for doing so!) I was also concerned about possible damage from the cross-country FedEx delivery to Massachusetts.

I received the bike about two weeks ago and the experience has been fantastic! The ebike is actually three modes of transportation in one: It operates as a regular bike using pedal power only. It features the thrust of motor-assisted pedaling foremost. And it can provide a scooter-like experience when using the throttle to ride on battery power alone.

If you are unfamiliar with ebikes, I suspect your first impression will be like mine — Holy Spit! The 500 Series City bike is one fine riding machine! Everyday has been pleasurable as I learn more about the bike’s capabilities and improve my riding skills.

No doubt the ebike is suited more for an older person than a young person with strong legs. A young person without a disability can get by with an affordable pedal only bike. A middle aged person has to respect the years…or suffer the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.”

Two words of advice related to ownership of an expensive bike:

One, do yourself a favor and hire a good mechanic to fully assemble, test ride, measure the bike to your size, and explain any questions about the machine. Sure, you can probably waste a few hours assembling the bike and save a few dollars — but why risk a good investment? Better to do it right and focus on riding.

Two, pick up good locks to secure the bike. A “gold standard” lock for primary security and the Ride1Up U-lock & cable as secondary for front wheel. And don’t forget about securing the seat and helmet as well. The bike will attract attention and deservedly so.

In closing, the bike is on the expensive side but you won’t regret buying it. I’m looking forward to a summer of memorable riding experiences.

After researching for months looking for an affordable but well made E bike, I decided based on all of the positive reviews to order a Ride1UP 500 City. The bike arrived just 2 days after I ordered it, which was a pleasant surprise. Everything I read about the quality of the bike, the incredible customer service from Kevin has been exactly as advertised. I’ll be purchasing a second bike from Rise1UP for my wife in the very near future, and highly recommend this company and their products to anyone.

What a fantastic product for the price point! I’ve only had the bike for 3 days, but I’m amazed at how well it works and how sleek and inconspicuous it is. There was a bit of a wait as the bike was back ordered when I purchased it, but the customer service was great and their communication was quick and explanative. I was able to get the bike up and running out of the box in approximately 25 minutes, which I think is rather impressive as I have no experience assembling even a regular bicycle. I’ve already recommended the bike to multiple friends who are in the market for one and will continue to do so in the future.

I bought this bike for my wife because she worries she slows me down when we bike together so I end up biking alone. Now she zooms up the hills and when passing me says, “come on grandpa”. We also got the upgraded controller and am very happy we did. It took me a long time to pull the trigger on buying the bike because for the price, it was in my never-to-be-humble-opinion, too good to be true and therefore a possible scam. Well, I finally decided my credit card would protect me and was pleasantly surprised by what a high quality bike it is and what a hoot it is to ride. I’m not a betting man, but I’d bet everything I own I could kick Greg Lemond’s ass on this bike. Everyone who tries it loves it. We have two homes and have been thinking of buying another one so we don’t have to haul it back and forth. It’s the first electric bike we’ve ever owned and I give it a big thumbs-up.

The Bike is solid – I have put over 1300 miles on it since December and have had no issues whatsoever. The battery is powerful and you can get between 35 and 55 miles on a charge depending on the elements. Only thing I have had to do is adjust brake cables. I did customize the handlebar setup, changed seats to my liking and have the advanced computer. get one now…just do it … best toy ever…

Amazing experience so far, I live in the mountains in Central Mexico and this bike hauls me up some serious inclines without me breaking sweat. I spent all of my youth cycling, but since moving country 16 years ago I just lost the habit. This bike has brought back the joy of cycling to me and feeling the wind in my face again just makes me smile. After-sales service has been impeccable, I had some issues with the rack but Ride1up fully back up their products, and then some. I arranged the import myself, and it was pretty painless, and for this quality bought here, I’d easily pay 50% extra, if not more. So if you are dithering, if you are wondering whther you can really get back in the saddle after all these years, if you live in a volcanic landscape, whatever it is that is making you pause, just go for it and pull the trigger. You’re going to have a blast.

I was only interested in class 3 ebikes, hoping to get up to around 25mph with my pedaling help the motor. Most class 3 ebikes were about double the price of this one, but this does everything I was hoping for. I’m 50 miles in, and no complaints at all.

I am very pleased with my purchase. If I were to rate the product on it’s individual parts and features alone, it might not rate out as a “5.” I might have given it a 4 as some of the hardware isn’t top shelf. That said, if I wanted anything that was significantly better I’d have to pay double or maybe even triple.

I wanted the MTB rather than the cruiser for my 16 mile commute because I like to get slightly aggressive with my ride in order to get a pretty good workout. They were out of the MTB but Ride1Up offered a discount to cover the cost of an MTB bar. I also bought some dropdowns to go with it and now I have an amazing commuter.

I ride pretty hard when I commute so I was concerned I wouldn’t get a big enough benefit from the pedal assist as I am able to sustain speeds of 17-18 mph fairly easily and 19-20 with good conditions or extra effort. I am also large-ish at 6’1″ 220 and was afraid that would slow down my speed. I was thrilled to look down at my speed once I got up to what felt like a max cruising speed and see I was going 25mph! I even hit 30mph coming down an overpass. I was also happy that I still burned the same number of calories that I would have on my non-assisted bike because as I was pedaling just as hard.

Ultimately, the bike was able to do what I had hoped—reduce my commute time enough to make bike commuting an option every day, not just when I get up early enough to fit it in, now that I moved four miles further from work.

When summer hits, here in Phoenix, It will be great to use the throttle all the way home rather than pedal and have to take a shower again.

I am very happy with my purchase and believe there isn’t a better value on the market when it comes to an E-bike.

Hello everyone, today I thought I’d post my less than one hundred mile review of my Ride1up City 500e.

Though it’s only been one week with my bike I have ridden over one hundred miles. How is that possible?

Well my daily commute to work is about forty miles round trip from my home to my office. An average trip taking my car is about forty five to fifty minutes a day, by taking my bike it takes approximately sixty five minutes. The transition from car to bicycle has been amazing, although i have only commuted 3 times to work I can already tell that my attitude is different when I arrive to work.

I chose the Ride1up based off of the price alone, I got in to the e-bike market with a budget of $1500. After searching I narrowed my choices down to the Ride1up, Aventon Pace500e, and the Rad City. Of all three bikes the Ride1up was the most appealing due to its low introduction price and great online presence by Kevin the owner. I was hesitant to spend too much money because I have never bike commuted and I had never ridden so many miles in one day. I did not want to invest too heavily into something for it to only sit in my garage if I wasn’t physically up to riding.

So, the bike…is amazing, please take this with a grain of salt because I have only ridden one other e-bike (Aventon Pace 500e) but it does everything as promised. Being out on the street truly experiencing what Los Angeles has to offer is great. There are some many things you do not see in the cage of the car that you see on a bike. The bike has enough power for my portly frame and I have no issues with getting the bike going even if I am in the highest gear at a stop light. I purchased the extra charger so I have one in my home and one in my office. I do need to charge the bike for each leg of my journey. I have modified a few things to my bike out of personal preference, I chose an aftermarket rear rack because the factory one was sold out, changed the cafe bars to riser bars, and used some spare MTB pedals I had around the house.

    Pros:
Design-Though it has been pointed out many times, this is a chinese off the shelf design, but that does not mean its not a nice looking bike. I constantly get complimented on the looks and the grey and brown color way is very nice.
Power-Weighing in at two hundred pounds the bike is never lacking in the power department. It quickly accelerates off the line via throttle or pedelec and can keep up with traffic until max speed is reached.
Battery life-Off of a four hour charge running the bike at PAS 7-9 (11 miles of my commute @ PAS 9) I am able to reach a maximum distance of 23 miles to a full drain. This is consistent regardless of head/tail wind, elevation change of ~400 feet, and my weight. The four hour charge is important because some days I only work half day in my office.
Ergonomics-I found this bike to be extremely comfortable even regardless of sizing (see my cons list), The included saddle is very comfortable and the city bars allowed my sitting position to be upright with little strain on my back, palms and shoulders.

    Cons
Sizing-This bike is sized for a variety of heights ranging from 5’4 to 6’1, as a result the frame itself is large with a dropped top tube to allow a range of standover heights. Although I am 5’9 I found that my inseam (28.5”) to be barely long enough to make the bike comfortable. The size of the bike as well makes it a behemoth to try to carry up the stairs in my office and to navigate the tight hallways.
City Bars-Included are swept back cruiser style bars that make the bike very comfortable to ride over a long distance, but are not as nimble to use for tight navigation and passing between vehicles (not recommended). The riser bar also allows for more agressive and “aero” riding when very windy.
Gearing-My bike is part of the second iteration that included the freewheel upgrade that is supposed to provide better cadences at higher speeds. This is true I am able to reach speeds of 24-25 mph I do find myself spinning the cranks like a mad man at the higher speeds.

Not a “pro” or a “con”
Brakes-The braking system on this bike is adequate, though not much of a con I felt it needed to be addressed. I have had to grab the brakes for an emergency stop on two occasions and both times the brakes performed admirably saving me from hitting the car. My only gripe is they do not provide the same confidence that hydraulic disc brakes give, is it a deal breaker. No not one bit.

So, depending on the response of this I will write another 1 month and 6 month follow up and review of the bike. I am going to upgrade the freewheel and front chain ring sometime this month and I will provide a follow up post with the results. This bike is great for someone entering the world of E-Biking and for the price and customer service I would definitely recommend it.

Is it a Specialized Turbo Vado killer? No.

Is this a bike that you can happily ride to work without spending three to five thousand dollars? Yes!

Outstanding, Incredible, Amazing, Spectacular! I could come up with one hundred more adjectives to describe the 500 series City Ebike. I have been shopping, and test riding, numerous ebikes since I decided to purchase one three months ago. I tested some of the higher end ebikes all the way to the least expensive bikes available. I kept a log of features that appealed and things that I felt were less than adequate to me. Then I used that log to narrow my choices to three ebikes. In the end the 500 series City checked all the boxes from components, to ride, to appeal, to value. It was incredibly easy to order and was shipped to me very fast. The assembly was “a piece of cake”. I was truly riding my new ebike in less than one hour after receiving it. I still can’t believe Ride1 Up can sell such a quality ebike for around $1000. Unforntunately for me, the weather hasn’t cooperated, so it has put a longer ride on hold. I can hardly wait to get out on to the open road.

My wife has not had a chance to ride it yet, so I cannot comment on the way it rides. I did have a bit of a problem assembling the bike though. I had to remove the front brake caliper due to routing . The cable ran behind the head tube instead of in front of the head tube. I just could not get the cable to route properly without removing the caliper. The bike went together well otherwise. The bike looks better in real life than it does in pictures, the satin grey is a great color!

Very well build bike on all the parts and the frame. Feels sturdy and brakes well on hills and such.

I’ve got to start by saying I’ve only had this bike for a week. I’m a cyclist. Not for fashion or competition. I cycle around my hilly city by the bay every day. I’m a landscape designer/contractor. Spoiler alert (You don’t have to drive an oversized truck to be a contractor). My team drives trucks. I avoid traffic, parking, stress and have a clear inspired head to design. Bikes are keys to the city and this one (with a little physical contribution on your part) Will get you through the city as fast as anything and faster than anything, during rush hour. It’s probably safest not to win the commuter race but it’s posable and it’s fun. For that matter, you probably should where a helmet and shouldn’t have your music to loud to hear but, this is about the bike. If you were slow to adapt to the cell phone, you might take a minute to adapt to the e bike but, only a minute. The return on investment, interns of physical input, is awesome. If I want a hilltop view, I’m there. I don’t always want assistance. I find I rarely have peddle assist engaged. When I want a boost I hit the throttle. It’s an option, and a really NICE one. if I want to git tricky on my mountain bike. I can do that. No single machine is going to satisfy all your needs but if you find you are not cycling as much as you’d like to. Consider the e bike. And, if your going to consider an E bike, consider this. This bike is Intelligent, cost effective, classy without unnecessary bling (which in the city, only gets your bike stolen) efficient and fast. I’ve got a detachable surfboard rack and a crate to carry my wet suit so I can check surf spots while getting warmed up. Get creative. This bike affords you the ability to customize it to your lifestyle. Like I said. I’ve only had the bike for a week but. I’m loving it. I’m cycling as much, probably more, than I ever had. Thats all for now. I’ve got to bike over to the grocery store and grab a few things.

We bought 2 bikes. We are very satisfied with them, better than expected. Wed use them in the very hilly and mountainous area of the Berkshires and their performance was outstanding. Very comfortable ride. Pretty bikes. We had tested other bikes including the “delivery” bikes and some of the 3 – 4,000 range price and this is just bas good or better. The price is an astonishing bargain. Buy it now before they become one of the favorites at a much higher price. a minimal damage to one of them occurred during transportation and the owner paid for the repair immediately. I talked to him a very nice and responsible owner, a 100% behind his product

Easy to assemble, intuitive to ride, and an all around blast. Can’t stop riding. I use the pedal assist mode almost all the time which allows my bum knee to loosen up and get exercise. I haven’t been able to ride my regular bike for years due to knee issues. Now I ride for hours every day and am loving it. FYI I am 70 years old.

Quality bike at a great price. Due to some initial issues with the controller, Kevin called me and offered to upgrade me to the LCD controller free of charge. This level of support was appreciated. The bike has worked great and I look forward to commuting to work on it. Big fan!

I have been looking for an entry level ebike to tool around with, enhance my commute and have a faster bike for my disabled wife to keep up with me. This all fit the bill for under $1200. (I added the fender/rack and LCD upgrades)

That said, I replied to a local Craigslist ad. Kevin (the company owner) immediately responded to my email and directed me to an available demo within a 30 minute drive from my home to test. I was very impressed. The quality was above the average mail order type bike. It is built on a generic platform using many standardized parts. The fit and finish was perfect. The City model has a short reach, so anyone can ride within the seat height parameters. This made it perfect for my myself and my short wife.

I ordered one last Sunday, and it quickly arrived on my porch Tuesday afternoon. After unpacking, I inspected every part for any damage. I found nothing damaged (even though the box had a crushed corner.)
Before affixing the front wheel, I noticed the hub cones were way too tight. I just needed to release and adjust the bearing cones for smooth operation. This is important. The extra resistance will affect battery performance and cause excessive hub wear. This was the only manufacturing “flaw” that I found. I would also advise caution when unwrapping the protective foam sheeting. When cutting, make sure you don’t accidentally snip any electrical wires on the handlebars. I ALMOST did.

The rear fender and rack were already installed. I installed the front wheel and fender. I had to extend the kickstand with the adjustment screw. It was very straight forward. I attached the handlebars to the threadless stem, greased and dropped in the seatpost, and assembly was done! Oh wait, I opted for the LCD panel for telemitry and 9 increments of PAS vs the standard 3. The installation was simple. Just a screw on a hinge clamp. No need to pull off the grips. The LCD came pre-configured to the bike. It was plug and play. I just needed to change the units from metric to English.

I charged the battery while I took a dinner break. Afterwards, I pumped up the tires, locked in the battery, and everything was in working order. I did need to make some brake pad adjustments to keep them from rubbing on the rotor. (BTW, it came with Tektro discs and calipers.) One note to make is that the motor hub is situated where you can’t adjust the inner pad without removing the caliper. This is understandable because of the nature of the tall hub. The derailleur required no adjustment. Wheels came true and correctly dished.

PLEASE NOTE: In the event of a rear flat, you will need an 18mm open end or small crescent wrench to remove the rear wheel. You will also need something to cut 2 small wire zip-ties to unplug and release the motor wire from the frame. It is also advisable to remove the caliper (5mm allen) because the hub is heavy and cumbersome while trying to reattach in the dropouts. These needs to be included in your tire change kit.

I finally took it for a test ride before bedtime. There were no issues at all. The saddle is quite comfortable. I always upgrade my saddles, and I won’t need to on this one. I did, however, swap the post out for a sprung one. Luckily, it’s the most popular size, 27.2mm.

The next morning, I rode to work, a 12 mile, fairly flat commute. That was FUN! I usually take about 50 minutes. I was there in 35! Battery was at 60% after my arrival. I ran most of the way set at 7 on PAS mode. I find the highest PAS (8/9) too fast for my cadence in the tallest gear. I never needed to downshift, even over a tall overpass. I will seek out a different freewheel because the gearing is too low in the highest setting on a high PAS mode. I also wish there was at least one bottle cage brazeons. For the money though, my criticism is negligible. GREAT JOB!

    Here are some unlisted specs:

I love my electric bike from Ride1UP! I did a lot of research before purchasing this bike and it is by far the best bike for the money especially considering the 500 watts and 48 volts. It has a larger frame size than other ebikes and my 6’5″ husband can ride comfortably on it as well. Nice that it has 2 types of handle bars as options. I love that it has a front wheel shock as well. I attached my son’s bicycle seat on the back and as he says we go fast fast. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a high quality ebike. The sleek design is the icing on the cake.

Very attractive bike with a long battery life and a sturdy build. Easily handles my commute biking the pothole-ridden streets of San Francisco. Love the electric peddle assist – it makes going up hills SO much easier (though sometimes I just use the throttle lol). 10/10, I highly recommend, this thing is really fun to ride (and really fast).

    Hello,

Purchased my e-bike from ride1up.com about a month ago. I actually wasn’t convinced that I would need or want an electric bike, but after riding it for a month I cannot imagine being without one!!! It is super convenient now to go downtown and avoid the hassle with traffic and parking.
What I like: I can go fast.or slow, and put as much or little energy in it as I want. (I love the peddle assist)
To start up from.a stop is super quick, you can get away from traffic easy.
The bike is sturdy yet not bulky.
The shock absorbers are great, since the bike paths are full of cracks!
The lock is built into the bike, which is convenient, you don’t forget to bring it. The lock could be bigger, but that might make it harder to fit on the bike.
Battery seems to last a long time!
All in all, love it !!!
