Can you change the classes on the Portola? minus plus

Yes you can! The Portola folding ebike arrives in Class 2 out-of-the-box. You can easily change between a Class 1, 2, or 3 ebike through the handlebar display. This offers various benefits where you may need to limit your speed and capabilities depending on the where you are riding.

We are a direct-to-consumer company both in pricing and strategy. You will generally pay a premium for the ability to test ride through a dealer. However, our bikes have been thoroughly tested by top reviewers such as Electric Bike Review, Electric Bike Report, Cycling Weekly, Clean Technica, Electrek and many others who have published their reviews on YouTube. We only ship within the US and Canada. The contiguous United States is FREE. Hawaii and Alaska is $600. Shipping to Canada is $100. Bought two Portola in fall of 2024 and been using them since. Great quality, a bit heavy, but manageable without the battery. So much tork with those motors! No hill is too steep, I use it with level 1 or 2 assist and 3 or 4 in the hills. Rarely with level 5. It goes too fast! The combination of 8 speed and 5 level of e-assist gives you flexibility for any terrain. Front suspension is great. I should have added the seat suspension, as I did for my wife. Overall great bike, solid, strong, cheap for what you get. Two bikes fit in my camper garage side by side without folding. The throttle is used for start, or to give a kick when needed. I choose the big battery and I recharge it twice a year. Detailer is good and precise. Comes fully adjusted out of the box. Easy to assemble. 5'-9" and the seat is at maximum height. Handles are at fixed height.

I like the Ebike . But it's heavy which makes it hard to fold. To make the bike lite I have to take out the Battery. I will need more time to test out the Ebike. I will let know.

Choosing this as my first e-bike was the best decision ever! It has completely transformed my riding experience and made biking so much easier, especially when grinding up steep hills where the extra boost is a lifesaver. Aside from the great performance, I absolutely love the turquoise color! It looks amazing in person and has already turned quite a few heads and earned me some great compliments!

The most fun I have exercising! I am 64 5'6 and 239lbs, three years ago I weighed 405 lbs. I could have never imagined then that I would ever ride a bicycle again. A month ago I offered a neighbor a ride to drop off her Letric bike for service. It was my first time seeing a "full size" folding bike. It went easily into my midsize SUV. It sparked a thought, which triggered several weeks of research. The best option by far is the RIDE1UP Portola. The specifications, dozens of reviews, and a multitude of exemplary ratings, all informed my choice and decision to purchase. Assembly was straightforward, I did it alone. The Support Center is stellar; their responses are prompt and thorough. Robbie quickly answered all my questions and supplied links to additional documentation and videos. Kudos to Robbie for delivering a wonderful customer experience. Having not ridden a bike in over 20 years I was nervous and extremely cautious. After my third ride, I felt extremely comfortable. By muscle memory, I can shift gears, brake, accelerate, and ring the bell without looking or hesitation. When riding I now feel as though that my Portola is an extension of myself. I have yet to fold my Portola or place it into my vehicle. I am much too busy rediscovering the city. I have several bike trails that I plan to visit.

This is my first Ebike. I purchased it based on about a dozen Youtube reviews. The key question for me was will the bike be able to handle long steep hills. I'm in the Michigan UP with big hills on may daily commute, and this bike is CRUSHING, literally crushing them... it blew me away actually, how confidently it handles steep hilly terrain, and barely taps the battery! Overall the bike has outperformed my expectations in every key category: hill ascent, power range & acceleration, solid build quality, standard pedal biking capability & coasting, fitness biking capability, componentry quality, cargo capacity, portability, and price. I wanted an ebike to commute that would also allow me some decent fitness rides, save me room in my RV & car for all my travel, and the Portola is far beyond exceeding all excpectations! I am stoked I stumbled upon Ride1Up and purchased the Portola! I only have a few minor suggestions now that I've traveled with the bike from FL to MI and have rode 300 miles over various terrain... 1. Folding the bike, (unless I'm doing it wrong) the contact points where the fork hits the rack & the stem hits the frame at the key can scratch or knick the finish... would be good to have some kind of cushion to place on those points to protect the paint. I put thick tape there but I'm looking for a permanent fix. 2. The two prong charger cord that you connect to the charger sits kind of loosely in the recepticle. 3. The water bottle cage location interferes with the carry handle to some extent. 4. For me the seat was uncomfortable, but that's personal preference, every review I watched they all praised the seat comfort... I swapped it for my road bike saddle. 5. Although every review I watched said "ghost pedaling" wasn't an issue, for me after about 24mph (which is not too often) I do end up Ghost Pedaling a little or I have to pedal rapidly to keep up... A 9 speed would be amazing! 6. If I'm not careful I get greasy knuckles when using the carry handle picking it up with my right hand, I usually put a wrag or paper towl over the chain ring to solve that. Like I said, only minor issues that take ZERO value from the bike... it's worth ever penny! My only hope now, since I will be putting a lot of miles on it, is that it holds up and lasts a long time. I couldn't be more pleased with the Portola, and the entire Ride1Up service... also, the Connect+ system is brilliant, have the large cargo basket and it's working better than I imagined, looking forward to adding some others soon! Thanks! JP

I’ve hady Portola for a few weeks now and I’m absolutely loving it! I live in a pretty rural area, so I’m glad I opted to get the suspension bar and comfort seat, it was a real game changer on the very bumpy roads!

The bike bell broke on the third bike ride. Contacted customer service and the response was “ Unfortunately, we don’t carry replacement bells; however, you can easily find a very affordable replacement online or at a local bike shop.” Bottom line is you use an inferior part on your bike and suggest I buy one that is of higher quality. Does not provide me with much confidence in what I should expect from your product.

Love the portability and overall feel of the bike. I am 6’1 and it’s comfortable. The 150 pound weight capabity on rear rack is great. I have been pulled a cart and with rear passenger on it which is crazy for a folding bike.
One small issue for me has been when i have the bike loaded the throttle has very slow or sometimes no response and I have to press it twice to get moving.
