What are the benefits of folding bikes? minus plus

Folding electric bikes offer a multitude of benefits for urban commuters and outdoor enthusiasts. Their compact design allows for easy storage and transport, making them ideal for crowded city living or trips with limited space. The Portola’s powerful motor reduces the effort required for commuting and extends the range of your rides. Folding ebikes emit zero emissions and reduce your carbon footprint. Overall, the Portola folding electric bike offers a practical, sustainable, and health-conscious transportation solution in today’s world where conserving space and energy is a priority. To lean more, read our article on the benefits of folding ebikes.

Can you change the classes on the Portola? minus plus

Yes you can! The Portola folding ebike arrives in Class 2 out-of-the-box. You can easily change between a Class 1, 2, or 3 ebike through the handlebar display. This offers various benefits where you may need to limit your speed and capabilities depending on the where you are riding.

Can I test ride a bike? minus plus

We are a direct-to-consumer company both in pricing and strategy. You will generally pay a premium for the ability to test ride through a dealer. However, our bikes have been thoroughly tested by top reviewers such as Electric Bike Review, Electric Bike Report, Cycling Weekly, Clean Technica, Electrek and many others who have published their reviews on YouTube. Additionally, we are now supporting an independent network of owners offering their bikes for demos. Learn more here Locations

No. The variations you see on the site are the only options we have.

Can you ship to _______? minus plus

We only ship within the US and Canada. The contiguous United States is FREE. Hawaii and Alaska is $600. Shipping to Canada is $100. We are not responsible for any additional tariffs charged by your local government which often times applied after importing. Unfortunately, we are not able to ship our bikes directly to Europe. You can use a shipping forwarder like ShopUsa.com to reach your country.

Are the bikes water-proof? minus plus

The bikes are not water-proof, they are water-resistant. Have only had the bike a week so not much to report yet, but take note - if you are looking at Indigo - the bike is NOT indigo. I would call it more charcoal with a hint of green. I brought this to Support via email and they basically blew me off blaming color variations. Anyone knows how paint is mixed, it's a pretty simple process. Based on the condescending responses I've received, I would hesitate to purchase from Ride1Up again. Compare the color of my bike to the color to the color they show on the website.

Bought this for my wife and she loves it. Easy to maneuver and easy to stow away in the back of our suv. Range is excellent and plenty of power to boot. Tires are a bit noisy for her since she's 99.9% on paved trail and streets. But we're taking this to Sedona and the tires on there should be just fine. Would have liked to see the reflective tires on the Portola. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an affordable folding, step-through ebike. I would definitely buy from Ride1up again.

Bought two Portola in fall of 2024 and been using them since. Great quality, a bit heavy, but manageable without the battery. So much tork with those motors! No hill is too steep, I use it with level 1 or 2 assist and 3 or 4 in the hills. Rarely with level 5. It goes too fast! The combination of 8 speed and 5 level of e-assist gives you flexibility for any terrain. Front suspension is great. I should have added the seat suspension, as I did for my wife. Overall great bike, solid, strong, cheap for what you get. Two bikes fit in my camper garage side by side without folding. The throttle is used for start, or to give a kick when needed. I choose the big battery and I recharge it twice a year. Detailer is good and precise. Comes fully adjusted out of the box. Easy to assemble. 5'-9" and the seat is at maximum height. Handles are at fixed height.

I like the Ebike . But it's heavy which makes it hard to fold. To make the bike lite I have to take out the Battery. I will need more time to test out the Ebike. I will let know.

Choosing this as my first e-bike was the best decision ever! It has completely transformed my riding experience and made biking so much easier, especially when grinding up steep hills where the extra boost is a lifesaver. Aside from the great performance, I absolutely love the turquoise color! It looks amazing in person and has already turned quite a few heads and earned me some great compliments!

The most fun I have exercising! I am 64 5'6 and 239lbs, three years ago I weighed 405 lbs. I could have never imagined then that I would ever ride a bicycle again. A month ago I offered a neighbor a ride to drop off her Letric bike for service. It was my first time seeing a "full size" folding bike. It went easily into my midsize SUV. It sparked a thought, which triggered several weeks of research. The best option by far is the RIDE1UP Portola. The specifications, dozens of reviews, and a multitude of exemplary ratings, all informed my choice and decision to purchase. Assembly was straightforward, I did it alone. The Support Center is stellar; their responses are prompt and thorough. Robbie quickly answered all my questions and supplied links to additional documentation and videos. Kudos to Robbie for delivering a wonderful customer experience. Having not ridden a bike in over 20 years I was nervous and extremely cautious. After my third ride, I felt extremely comfortable. By muscle memory, I can shift gears, brake, accelerate, and ring the bell without looking or hesitation. When riding I now feel as though that my Portola is an extension of myself. I have yet to fold my Portola or place it into my vehicle. I am much too busy rediscovering the city. I have several bike trails that I plan to visit.

I didn’t like the first ride, it was awful. Strange, terrible noises coming from the front, the suspension is clicking, gears aren’t switching, everything is crackling, just awful.

Hi Anton, we will email you to assist. Your review indicates that both the headset, the gears and maybe other items were not assembled correctly or need additional adjustments. The bike should not be making any strange noises. Please check your email, we are reaching out to you to resolve these issues.
      thank you!

Beautiful design, but just not quite there. The throttle sucks and is basically on/off. All other bikes we’ve tried have progressive throttle control. The motor is exceptionally loud for a hub motor as well. There are quieter mid drives out there. My other brand e-bike was a virtually silent hub motor.

Now the mechanical stuff. For context, I’m a mechanically savvy self repairer on all my bikes. First off the derailer protection cage didn’t include the necessary screws to mount. So we didn’t put it on initially and one bump and that derailer was misaligned. Easy enough to bend back as the hanger didn’t crease, but annoying that I had to go to the hardware store to get my own screws. The front fork has play in the stanchions. Makes for a loose feeling and clicky front end. The handle bar lock safety button broke, so now there’s no extra safety.

On the plus side, Ride1up answers the phone when you call their customer service. I’m impressed with that. And like I said, it’s a pretty design. Tubing is done well, the accessory rear seat and front rack are brilliant. But the throttle is keeping us from comfortably letting friends with other e-bikes ride this one (we do weekend events where there are a lot of ebikes to get around.
