FAQ's
Can I test ride a bike?
We are a direct -to-consumer eBike company both in pricing and strategy. You will generally pay a premium for the ability to test ride. Due to our pricing strategy, we are not have nationwide dealer partnerships. There are some very helpful videos on YouTube reviewing the bike and detailing a closer look.

Can I buy other batteries, and are they easy to switch?
Yes. The 500 series uses a generic Reention Dorado battery integration system. This is not our exclusive technology, and there are a number of brands who sell the same battery packs. Added packs MUST be 48V. Our battery dimensions are 46.5cm x 6.5cm x 11.5cm.

Can you ship to _______?
We are able to ship all over North America. Shipping to Mexico and Canada is a flat $25. For Europe and Asia, you can use a company called Shop USA to forward to your country. Unfortunately we are not able to ship our bikes directly to Europe.

Are the bikes water-proof?
The bikes are not water-proof, they are water-resistant, rated IP-65. While we do not recommend leaving the bikes out in the rain or riding in the rain or other hazardous conditions due to personal safety, the bikes can handle water exposure.

What is the gearing ratio?
14-28T rear 7-speed Freewheel and a 48T front chainring.

Will this bike fit me?
Due to the drop-down frame style, this bike is a great fit for riders 5’4”-6’5”. We currently offer only one size and it does fit most (between the range listed) rider heights. The sizing is based on typical inseam length with a step-over height of 28". See sizing image on Support page.

What is the expected lifespan of the battery?
This depends significantly on how the battery is maintained. Under healthy conditions, the battery is rated for 800 cycles. This could last 5 years or longer depending on use and storage/care of your battery.

What is the realistic range of the 500 series?
The range is affected by a variety of factors; wind, surface, rider weight, tire pressure, bike tuning, surface grade, and by the amount of pedal assist. If you are 170lb rider using only the throttle without pedaling on a smooth surface with no headwind, you can expect a range of 30 miles, pedal assist high - 30 miles, pedal assist low - 60 miles.

Is replacing a flat tire difficult with a hub motor?
Not with our bike. We have a disconnect cable right along the chain stay, so the rear wheel with the motor can be taken off and serviced with the only added difficulty being the disconnection of the cable.

What battery do you use?
The Ride1UP 500 series use a 52-cell arrangement of LG M26 18650 Lithium Ion batteries in a Reention Dorado 48V enclosure; the most widely available electric bike battery pack in the United States. It is lockable and removable and includes set of keys and a USB charger port. You can buy back-ups or replacements online at your own risk. Be sure to buy the right size and verify it is 48V. Failure to do so could cause severe damage.

Hi. I’m a retired vet. I spent 3 years watching tv. I’m at mile 400, I’ve lost 18 pounds, and I ride my bike every day. This bike is more fun for me than the high-end ebike I first rented. I’m HEAVY. I started at 264. This bike has held my weight, and I get massive miles out of it. I put 40 miles on it today in peddle assist 3 of 9. If you’re looking for a bicycle that helps you when you want, and doesn’t when you want. This is your bike. If you’re looking for a motorcycle this isn’t it. Although in do smoke every ebike I’ve ridden next to. The peddles and gearing REALLY speed you up in a way my friends, and family just can’t keep up with. I can do about 28 on a nice flat, and have had it to 50 on a down hill. I average 12 miles in hour as in usually at peddle assist 3 of 9. I’m super happy with my bike. Every stupid question I can ever think of, ride1up gets back to me in 10 mins. Even on labor day. I have been really impressed with the customer service.

This bike is fantastic and the price point allowed me to ditch my car commute (10 miles each way). I’ve been riding it for 2 weeks and have hit over 160 miles. The only minor issue to report is that the front rotor can’t be completely trued (per a bike mechanic), but it just causes some intermittent rubbing sounds and isn’t a big deal. I wasn’t willing to spend what the more expensive bikes cost and I’m so glad that there is an affordable high-quality bike on the market now. I highly recommend it.

I am very happy with the quality of your product and the price. I had visited three different bike shops that were selling eBikes for two to three times as much as your product before purchasing from Ride1UP, your eBike is comparable in quality and features with the much more expensive eBikes. I was lucky and had the opportunity to test ride your eBike because a friend had purchased two. I would highly recommend Ride1UP to anyone interested in buying an eBike.

What a fantastic product! Everything about this bike is very well thought out. The “gold” edition is just damn sexy. I was considering sticker-bombing the bike to lighten the color and increase its visibility but it just has too much swagger as it comes. I spent months shopping around for Ebikes before I finally decided on Ride1Up and, so far, I am not disappointed. I would never think of purchasing a rear gear hub motor system that is any more cost than this bike. Its packed with the features and the power you would expect from a class 3 pedelec while STILL being several pounds lighter AND half the price of competitors. Even with the increased tariff fees this bike is an incredible value and I especially appreciated the $40 off commitment to replace commutes, the de-facto free shipping, AND the super responsive support staff and online community presence. So far so good! I bought this thing as a car replacement, and I am really happy with how it’s performing so far! I can easily get from the flats of my city all the way into the high hills, with lots of power to spare. I use the bike to get to class, babysitting clients, girlfriend’s house, and my 2nd job, and I only depleted the battery halfway after a week of intense use. My range might be better than most people’s though because I’m a small person. It really brightens up my day to exercise and take in the views as I commute. I was really nervous to make such a big purchase as a student, but it looks like it was a good choice so far. Components are not bad quality and are great for the price range! I will try to update this review as time passes to check in about how the components are holding up.
    Customer service is great.
The bike loses one star because there was shipping damage as many others said, and also a screw was missing.

This is a review for the budget-conscious non-professional in need of a high-use reliable ebike/car alternative. Warning: It’s super long. TLDR: IF YOU’RE WONDERING IF THIS BIKE IS THE RIGHT CHOICE — DO IT!

I began researching ebikes when I moved to a new city where autonomous transport is necessary, but didn’t have a car or the funds to purchase a new one. Now, I am sitting down to write this after my Ride1up MTB powered me home in the rain with a full load of groceries this evening. I am not someone who usually writes reviews but given that they are a huge part of my research process before making a purchase, I really want to give back in this situation.

I bought this bicycle to be my commuter, and every day my ride to and from work is a joy! I live in a place where it gets 90-100 most days of the summer and I can ride to work in my work clothes and barely sweat. It is also my errand runner, source of exercise, and fun-vehicle, you name it. Did I mention it’s ridiculously fun?

    Some general pros:

    – Everyone- from friends and family to bike shop techs- is surprised by the pep of the bicycle (“this thing has serious kick.”) I only use the highest pedal assist setting on smooth, paved roads because it’s just that quick. Most ebikes in the price range max out in the low 20s and this one maxes out around 26 mph (although I can’t specifically vouch for the exact speed as I do not have an LCD display yet, it feels that fast for sure.)

    – I love the option to have a throttle or just pedal assist. For the most part I’m always pedaling, but there have been times that just using the throttle for a quick acceleration is really helpful.

    – I feel spoiled by the front suspension. Again, most ebikes of this price range do not have this feature and it’s really helpful on potholed/bumpy roads.

    – Speaking of those bumpy roads- this bike is extremely comfortable. And easy to use. The seat is wide and soft and the handlebars, though it is a mountain bike, are high enough up that it’s easy to sit straight if necessary. The frame is a partial-drop so you don’t need to swing your leg quite so high to get on (I didn’t think I cared about this but it does start to make a difference when you use it all the time.)

    – The tires are wider than road tires, but mid-to-smaller sized for MTB tires, which is perfect for a mix of commuting and bopping around on dirt/grass for fun.

    – It looks awesome. I have the Gold one, with the brown leather seat and handlebars. She’s so pretty and I like the thumb throttle that comes with it.

    – It’s BIG and sturdy. Feels like riding a horse which is really fun. This also means it’s pretty heavy, especially with the battery attached, but as a 5′ 7″ 23 year old female I can lift it short distances no problem.

    – The amazing customer service is the cherry on top. When I was debating whether this was the bike for me, I called Ride1Up’s support number and the owner, Kevin, picked up! He was on his way to the airport but made time to talk to me about what I was looking for and what I needed (mostly I needed to know whether I could put snow tires on it for mild-winter commuting, and a rack for grocery runs.) Additionally I needed the bike to arrive within a week (to the other side of the country.) Later that day he made the sale for me over the phone because that conversation sealed the deal. I’ve also had to contact customer support via the facebook page chat and via email a few times and they’ve been extremely responsive and helpful!

    Some general cons:

    – When I got the bike in the mail the reflector on the front tire was snapped. I could have probably called the company and gotten a replacement but it really wasn’t a big deal.

    – The kickstand that the bike comes with is pretty sturdy, but the bike itself is pretty heavy and when I put two panniers full of groceries on the rear rack I installed, it got pretty unstable. One day when I walked away from the bike it fell over and one of the rack screws stripped out. Again it wasn’t a big deal and I was able to get my local bike shop to fix it easily, but they also put on a more heavy-duty two-pronged kickstand to handle the grocery runs.

    – If I had my ‘druthers, I’d like a few more gears. I have it on the highest gear basically all the time and at the highest speed I’m pedaling pretty fast without much traction, but overall this is not a major inconvenience and might be something I can mod in the future.

    Some general other things.

    – The built-in front light is fine, but isn’t very bright, but this also isn’t really a con because the fact that it has a built in front light at all is not a given at this price point.

    – I don’t really have a sense of how far the bike can go on a charge because the (non-LCD) controller is not very reliable as an indicator of battery level. The number of lights oscillate all the time. This means that I charge the battery more often than I probably should (usually every 20ish miles), because I don’t want to be surprised by the battery being dead. Once I can afford it, I want to get one of their LCD displays, and maybe that would be more accurate. Also I’m excited about the extra levels of PAS.

Overall though, I usually ride with quite a high level of PAS and with quite a bit of weight with all the grocery runs, work stuff, etc. and it seems to last a long time with a lot of power! Plus charging it is super easy and fast.

Some extra advice, in case anyone is in a similar situation to me and wants more details/advice about my experience:

    1. As an amateur bike owner, I tried to assemble the bike myself (which isn’t complicated and I was able to do mostly successfully) but then got I nervous that it wasn’t done perfectly and brought it to a shop, which made me feel a lot better. If you don’t know how to do it yourself, it’s worth it to have an expert put it together.

    2. Speaking of bike shops, find a good one! The super nice guys at mine helped me find and install fenders (essential in heavy rain) that fit (which was a little tricky because of the width diameter of them)/a good sturdy kickstand, and re-installed my rack for me after the fall.

    3. I got bicycle insurance (~$8/month from Velosurance) to ease my mind about theft, in addition to a heavy duty U-lock. People are horrible about stealing bikes, especially expensive ones, and security measures are worth the investment in my opinion.

Lastly, here’s the equipment I got in addition to the bicycle (mostly from amazon), which I also researched excessively. It’s pricey altogether but for the use/quality I think it’s definitely worth it.

    1. Rack setup (recommended by Ride1up):
    – Ibera Bike Rack- Bicycle Touring Carrier Plus for Disc Brake Mount for 26”-29” Frames.
    – M-Wave Seat Post Clamp with Rack Mounts, 31.8mm (You need this in place of the quick release seat post clamp the bike comes with to put on the bike rack)
    2. Bags for groceries/everyday: These are pricey but very stable and come on and off SO easily and are the perfect size/durability.
    – Ibera Bike Trunk Bag- PakRak Clip-On Quick Release Bicycle Commuter Bag
    – Ibera Bicycle Bag PakRak Clip-On Quick Release All Weather Bike Panniers (Pair)
    3. Security: I put the U-Lock through the frame/back wheel and loop the cable through the front wheel and hook it onto the U-lock. Ultimately if someone is determined enough to steal the bike they will be able to, but this should seriously deter them- and that’s what the bike insurance is for.
    – Abus Granit X-Plus 540 9” Bike U-Lock (this is HEAVY DUTY but also easy to use and that nice German engineering- no keys getting stuck or anything.)
    – Kryptonite KryptoFlex Looped Bike Security Cable

Alright in all likelihood no one is going to read all of this but I just cannot say enough about how much fun I’m having and how great this company/bicycle is!!! I will report back in the winter once I attempt my winter commute, but for now, I’m so thrilled. Thanks again to Kevin and Ride1Up!

I could not be happier with this purchase, the only thing that may have some room for improvement is the packaging. The Derailleur was bent due to being completely vulnerable with no protection during shipping. Furthermore, the front wheel reflector was broken in the box.
Aside the from the packaging the bike itself is extremely smooth and powerful.

One more suggestion would be introducing a key enabled shut off feature due to the fact that a passerby can simply turn the bike on and cause a lot of damage if the rear wheel is locked.
    Thanks!

Great Bike – very happy with my purchase. I ordered the 500 MTB bike on Fri and received it the following Wed. I live in Illinois. The package was intact and the bike inside was well protected with plastic and foam packaging. The bike was easy to assemble and took about 30 minutes.

I have rode it about 100 miles so far and when riding at a slower pace 13-15 mph, I was able to get over 50 miles on one battery charge.

The bike is fun to ride and coasts very well downhill with no noticeable drag from the hub motor. I bought the upgrade display and when in assist mode 9 and 7th gear, on flat ground I could get to 25 mph pedaling as fast as I could pedal (I am a 69 year old male). The brakes and shifters all work well and seem to be of good quality. The entire bike seems solid and well made. I definitely recommend this bike.

I love this bike! It is super fun and the motor is very powerful. Battery life is longer than I expected. The assembly video is easy to follow and thorough. The front fender, like other reviewers have noted, is pretty useless. It’s not wide enough to fit around the tire. But the back fender fits fine, so we’ll just do without the front one.
We ordered two bikes, but only one showed up on the FedEx truck. We called Ride1Up and left a voicemail, and I sent an email to customer service (this all happened around 7pm). Within 30 minutes, someone responded to my email with the tracking number for the second bike. Early the next morning, someone returned our phone call. Both bikes were sent at the same time, so who knows why one was delivered a day later. 1 star for FedEx, 5 stars for Ride1Up customer service!
There are a lot of ebike options out there. We went with this company because it seemed like they sold quality bikes, and I can now confirm that this is true.

    Pros:

    · Fast and powerful – Flies on flat ground and it muscles right up the overpass hill on my commute

    · Excellent quality – Frame, components, rack, seat

    · Battery life – Started on 4 bars, have ridden approximately 15 (mostly flat) miles, mostly on max assist, and still have 1-2 bars left (I have the basic control)

    · Wide fit range – I’m 6’2” and 180 lbs, and my wife is 5’4” – with adjustment, it works for both of us. I’d consider it a mid-step frame for me

    · Appealing style – I’ve only had it for a few days, but I’ve had several compliments already

    · Price – Comes in lower than most comparables – Rad, Surface 604, Aventon, etc

    · Shipping – Arrived on time

    Cons:

    · For MTB version, fenders require major fitting – Some fitting is to be expected with fenders, but with the big tires, it’s a project

    · Pedal assist let-off lags a bit – With cadence sense only, this is just an expected tradeoff

    · Gearing – Instead of top gear being 14-tooth, I’d prefer 11-tooth. It’s easy to run out of pedal ability

    · Bent derailleur hanger – Packaging was good overall and protected the bike well, but the hanger needed to be bent back slightly. All good after that and tuning

    · Front brake cable was routed on wrong side – simple to swap it to the outside of the fork though

I love this bike! Kevin could not have been any more helpful before, during or after the sale. I usually ride a much heavier Pedego bike, which I also enjoy, but it’s fun to get on this sporty lighter bike too. It’s got all the power and range that I need and the price can’t be beat. The front fender is a flimsy joke, but the rear fender and rack come installed and are very handy. Buy one and get out of the house!

I’ve owned this bike for about 2 months now, and have been able to put a little over 100 miles on it. You really can’t beat this for the price. I upgraded the LCD (highly recommend this option), the option for more pedal assist levels is great. This bike turns any ride into either a steady workout, or barely any at all if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to sweat! I’m a heavy guy (about 275 lbs), and have ridden it over 20 miles on relatively flat trails only using one tick of battery. Conversely, I’ve ridden it about 18 miles on more hilly trails with many stop signs, and used about 2/3 of the battery up. I would say as long as I’m willing to put effort into the ride, I’ll get about 20-30 miles of range, depending on the usage of the motor during stops and hills. Otherwise, it’s only 10 lbs heavier than my old mountain bike, so it isn’t much different weight-wise. Great product!

On another note, communication has always been great through the buying process. Kevin always responded in a more than reasonable timeframe and was always very to-the-point with his responses.

Easy to order and assemble. Missing the screw to attach the front light though.
Top speed of 24mph on flat. Great bike to extend your commutable zone!

I will change the seat, it’s meant for comfort at relatively chill speeds, and I need performance for speed (aka less chaffing in between the legs)

Happy so far, first real time spent on the bike was this past week visiting Pismo Beach. I found a water bottle cage with an adjustable clamp that fits the downtube nicely and a 14oz smaller size water bottle at Walmart for $5. The holder swivels side to side making it easy to remove the bottle
Bike assembly was easy. The front rotor was slightly bent so I called Ride1Up. They had me take it to a local bike shop which replaced it. Ride1Up reimbursed me for the repair.

What an awesome and affordable bike. I’ve owned the 500 MTB for 4 months and have put almost 500 miles on it and the ride and range has been exceptional. I always ride at level 9 or full throttle and the bike with a full battery has no problem reaching 25mph with either (just pedaling or just throttle). I get about 30mi range at that full out speed which is exceptional for a bike at this price. But the best reason to own this bike is not just the great bike but especially the great and quick customer support from Kevin. So buy with confidence not just for this great bike at this great price but also that the company will be there with awesome customer service support.

The price versus performance is quite unbelievable with this bike! I was in our local bike shop cross shopping other E-Bikes and just could not believe how expensive most E-Bikes really are. I’ve not had the bike very long but so far everything has been outstanding.

The Bike is solid – I have put over 1300 miles on it since December and have had no issues whatsoever. The battery is powerful and you can get between 35 and 55 miles on a charge depending on the elements. Only thing I have had to do is adjust brake cables. I did customize the handlebar setup, changed seats to my liking and have the advanced computer. get one now…just do it … best toy ever…

I had this bike for about 2 weeks. Still getting used to it. I’ve put in about 100 miles. So far I love it. I recently finished a 20 mile round trip using mostly High pedal assist. There was 1 bar of power left when I returned…It gets a little scary thinking you could get stranded with no power, but I think you’re good for 20 miles.

Mtn. Bikes were delivered within 24 hours of ordering and took less than an hour to put both of them together. We are both in our 60’s and we live in the foothills of Reno. Our first experience with PAS bikes and they were awesome. Hills were not intimidating any more. With the old mtn. bike we had to switchback to make it up the first hill by our house. With our Ride1UP bikes we just go straight up as fast as we want. We definitely use them much more than the old bikes and look forward to riding them all the time. It snowed about 2 feet a few days after our first rides so we had to wait until now to get going again. It is 44 degrees with wind chills in the 20’s but they are so much fun we put on ski masks and rode them anyway!!! Bikes will definitely go 30 miles even in hilly terrain! Amazing!

Very, very happy with my new bike. Much beefier and heavy duty than I expected. Not ridiculously heavy, and pedaling without the motor isn’t too bad. Good to know if I run down the battery, which I haven’t even come close to. I HIGHLY recommend you watch the assembly video, specifically about not removing the plastic wrap around the steering head tube. Removing it makes assembly a bit trickier than it needs to be. Love the power, love the handling, love the bike. Overall, 5 stars.

I purchased the Ride1UP 500 MTB for my daily commute to my local train station for work. This bike will essentially pay for itself as it’ll save me $750 a year on parking fees alone.

The bike rides great and feel very sturdy. As my first ebike, I did a ton of research before making a purchase. Ride1Up made the most sense as the parts provided were either the same or equivalent to other bike models out there that were $300 more.

The bike’s simplistic design, along with it’s internal wiring, makes the bike look super sleek.

I added the rack and fender option to my bike as I needed the rack to carry my gym bag while riding. I didn’t really need the fenders as it doesn’t rain much in my area, but they didn’t have a rack only option when I purchased my bike at the time. However, they now sell the rack as an accessory by itself.

Lastly, Ride1Up customer service has been very helpful and communicative throughout the whole process. Whenever I had an inquiry about shipping or an issue with my bike, I would hear back either same day or the next.

Overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase and would highly recommend Ride1Up and their ebikes to anyone interested in jumping into the ebike scene!

Short story: MTB is great fun and a great value. Much more power than I expected and more comfortable than any of my other bikes. After buying 7 nice bikes over the last 8 years I have some perspective and can say some things for sure. Again, lots of power. Sends my 200 lbs up hills with ease. Seems to make a charge last a long time–but I like to pedal. It fits lots of folks, which makes it fun for riding with family. Adult daughter is 5’2″ and loves it. Overall good parts. Tires are fine for street use; thought they would be too knobby. Observations: Frame seems overly heavy–but, at 25 mph bike is rock steady–650 wheels are big help with this. Simple controller works fine. Low, medium, high is user friendly–just don’t know how fast or far you are going. Twist throttle works fine. No need for fenders. U will get wet in the rain! Finally–I have crashed a few times over the years. Do what u want, but: Always apply BOTH brakes and make sure CAN-I-TRY-IT people know this rule. (Endos hurt and leave scars. Practice butt over rear wheel emergency stops.) MTB is fast. Leave LOTS of room between u and bike ahead of u. Slow down around walkers Lastly, Kevin and crew are super attentive–excellent client service.

The Ride1Up bike is a Game Changer!
Outststanding Value – My wife and bought the 500 City model and the 500 Mtn. Bike model with all the accessories. These bikes are so fun to ride! We ride further and go places we couldn’t ride on a standard bike.
We did a lot of research to find the best ebikes for Value – Style – and Comfort. I love the detail Ride1Up put in to building these bikes. And they respond quickly to any questions or concerns.
If you haven’t bought a ebike yet – Buy a Ride1up bike before the prices go up!

Bike feels solid and pretty durable, definitely comfortable to ride. It’s not lightweight by any means, but it’s managable enough for me to carry up/down short flights of stairs, and when riding, the assist makes the weight basically disappear. Fun to cruise up hills at 20 mph without sweating it. Happy with it.

I purchased this bike 3 weeks ago to commute from my work by San Jose airport to Hayward w/c is around 26 miles. It took me 1 hr 25-35 min w/ pedal assist on level 6 and still have 2 bars left on my battery. If I ride home it will take me 1hr 10-15 min with terrible traffic along 880, so i save some gas and at the same time had my exercise. Thank you guys, my coworker are thinking of getting one too.

Wow, what a great product! Thank You for putting together such a great electronic bike at such a great price-point! I’ve ridden bikes for almost 50 years and getting into the electronic bike arena was a stretch to my comfort zone, so I did a lot of research. You might find shops are trying to hit this $1k price with something, but they are certainly NOT this quality.
Thank you for reminding me of how fun it can be to ride a bike as I now recall the thrill and exhilaration I felt when I first learned to ride. Over the years I’d lost that. I’ll be using this for most of my errands instead of hopping in my car as much as possible. And I love knowing I can use the electronic assist to get home if I get tired along the way.
Additionally, Kevin is absolutely first class and is very responsive and ready to help, both pre-sale and post. He’s definitely dedicated to your complete satisfaction.

I was hiking along a trail up at Lake Tahoe and passed a senior couple riding mountain bikes. They happened to be on E-bikes and suddenly it dawned on me that I could be riding up and down the 100’s of miles of trails that are behind our place. I had ridden mountain bikes for over 20 years until my knees gave out and I finally had total replacement on both of them. So, riding a bike is still enjoyable, but pulling a hill is a bit of a strain on my knees.
I started researching E-bikes and learned that there is a quite a range one can spend, as there is when buying a non electric mountain bike. The amount of riding that I planned to do steered me towards E-bikes in the up to $2000 price range. I stopped in at a few bike shops and took a test run. Most of these bikes were $3000 and up. So, not to be discouraged, I browsed the internet and came across Ride 1 UP advertised on Craigslist and Ebay.
I emailed the owner of the company and made an appointment to test ride one of his bikes. Well, long story short, I placed an order for his 500MTB and couldn’t be happier. I added an upgrade for the LED computer, a rack and fenders, plus the lock. This bike out the door with upgrades is a much better deal than comparable bikes offered at the local area bike shops. I’ve had my bike just a month and I can’t believe how enjoyable it is to ride 15 -20 miles along the Iron horse trail from Walnut Creek to Danville and back and have no discomfort in my knees. Yay! Thanks Kevin

I bought the 500 series MTB (black model) after reading Kevin’s reply to my reddit post asking for opinions for a first ebike. He is a super nice guy, responsive to all my questions (before and after buying the bike) and is very knowledgeable and passionate about ebikes in general. All in all, the bike itself is a 5/5 and the entire experience of buying the bike / general support is a 5/5 as well. I cannot believe the price of the bike is only around $1000 with free shipping (took about a day to receive my bike but I live in CA). It rides very smoothly and looks sleek. I’ve only had it for a couple of days but have already received a lot of compliments and stares from random people. The bike is also very light for an ebike which is a huge plus. I’m not a strong guy, but I can manage carrying it up a flight of stairs. Lastly, consider buying the upgraded LCD display. I’m thinking of ordering it soon after reading the other reviews.

I came across the mention of Ride1Up, on Reddit. I had pre-ordered a somewhat upscale eBike that is due to ship in the next couple of months, and was also contemplating converting my newish mountain bike into an ebike for my wife.

At first glance, it looked like it would be cheaper to buy a Ride1UP bike than to do the conversion. So I took a couple of days and dug into it. Sub 1K for an ebike? Must be one of those Walmart jobbies. Spent a day pouring over the website, the specs looked legit.

So I pulled the trigger and ordered a Series 500 MTB (it’s not really a mountain bike, more of commuter/light trails). I recieved confirmation emails at every step of the process, order received, payment processed, order shipped, here is your tracking number, your order should have arrived – here is some info on how to get in touch with us for support and to how to change the LCD display for Kph to Mph.

UPS beat up the box pretty well, but there was no damage. I happened to have a buddy over when the box arrived and that turned out to be very helpful. Assembly was straight forward, but if you aren’t comfortable with putting on a Quick Release front tire on a bike, please see your local bike shop. There are a couple steps that are really easy, but they HAVE TO BE DONE RIGHT.

Plugged in the battery to charge and went back to work. When I got home, between my daughter and myself, we 17 miles on it.

We live in a really hilly part of South West Portland, Oregon. And although we love to bike, we aren’t Lycra warriors. There are so many hills that I just end up pushing my bike up them (5% grade on my street to a 10% grade about 1/4 of a mile away)

Getting our hands on the Series 500 was like being a kid released for recess. We were free! The hills were do-able! Like you didn’t have to hop off. Like you could actually go up them rather quickly, which was mind blowing. Even the Lycra Warriors zigzag back and forth going up our street.

Note: getting an eBike doesn’t mean you don’t have to pedal. If you want to go up the steeps, you are going to have to put in some effort. But you can actually ride up them, as opposed to hopping off and walking. And when it levels out and you want to throttle out a bit to catch your breath, hey, you earned it.

So the bike: I love it. The frame is solid, all of the components are of good quality. The version I got has the faux leather seat and hand grips, and I feel quite fancy when I approach it. Yes, that is my bike with the leather appointments. It looks and feels fantastic.

Check the sizing specs, as if you are shorter than 5’5″, this might not work well for you.

The Ride: the Ride1Up is my first eBike, so I don’t have much to compare it to. From a bicycle perspective, this guy is a 700c, which is similar to my 29er MTB, so it’s a geometry and ride feel that I am familiar with. It’s solid, fast and safe. At PAS 0, it’s sluggish, but workable. Now add in the power.

The Power: I bought the upgraded LCD display/Controller. We rode around with the standard display for the first couple of days. Totally functional, but I love having 10 levels of PAS to play with (0-9). I interact with the PAS setting while riding much more than I anticipated. And I can’t imagine not having a speedometer, now.
But I got off track. OMG, the power. It’s awesome have some power to help you out. Or help you get started when you at intersection, riding in the car lane for the first time of your life, because you know you aren’t going to be holding up everyone behind you.

Support: I had an small issue with my thumb shifter. Contacted Ride1UP. “We’re shipping you out a replacement part.” I was just asking for ideas/permission to try to work on it, without breaking any warranty. Opened a cover and sprayed a little lube and everything has been perfect since, and I let Ride1Up know. But a new shifter assembly arrived today.

Quick Testimonial: My work had a Bike to Work Week in August. I made it two days (the hills). I bought a Bird-like scooter, which I used for the next two weeks, because I live in a beautiful city and I want to make it to work while experiencing it and without burning gas.

Today was my 9th day bike commuting on the Ride1Up Series 500 MTB. 3 miles each hilly, hilly way. It would have been the 10th, but it rained really hard one day and I took my truck.

The upgraded LCD display shows I’ve put 97 miles on it, but I know we did at least 30 miles before putting the upgraded display on.

Are there bikes with better specs out there? Sure. I still have one on pre-order. Do they deliver the same value for money? Humm. That gets harder to answer. Do I need a bike that will take me to Vancouver on pure throttle power? I thought I did, but now I don’t know. This guy is doing everything I ever dreamed of. I know the torque sensor will be cool, but…

In short, the Ride1Up (as a product and as a company) has so far exceeded my expectations that I can’t stop raving about it. High quality machine at a very competitive price point. I took a chance on Reddit mention and couldn’t be happier.

PS. Their website is great. A lot of good info in the FAQ/Support section.
PPS. My son must never know about the skateboarding side of Ride1UP. I was doing 28 Mph into work today, and it was (exhilarating/terrifying). And I had my hands of two sets of quality disc brakes.

I developed a slight obsession with e-bikes, and I really studied the available options in a market in which there are so many different vendors and a huge variety of bike configurations, components and prices. When I found out about Ride1up and checked out their bikes on the website, I almost thought that it was a scam. No one offers bikes of this quality at anywhere near these prices, even companies that seem to be run by robots that import bikes directly from China. But I ordered a bike, and it is fantastic! It has plenty of power, a nice ride with the front shock and the 27.5″ wheels, and quality components. The battery life and the acceleration exceeded my expectations. It’s also a sweet-looking bike. Finally, the customer service was very good. Kevin answered all my questions and helped me optimize the controller settings.
