Maintenance

From the moment your board arrives, we recommend you complete regular maintenance checks on your board. At first, you’ll want to get to know your board. Check all the nuts and screws with the provided skate tool and any additional Allen wrenches necessary. Before riding we recommend you ensure all bolts are tighten to your preference. A loose kingpin could cause rattling and a very wobbly ride. If not adjusted properly, it could lead to serious injury.

Battery:  Proper battery maintenance is crucial to a long battery lifetime. There are many factors that influence the lifespan of your battery.

First and foremost, completely discharging your battery to empty is hard on the battery and reduces lifespan. If you do ride the battery to empty, charge the battery immediately. Extended periods of time at empty will reduce battery life.

Never use a charge other than the charger provided directly by Ride 1up. Using a different charger will damage your battery and could cause serious damage

Do not leave or charge the battery in the sun or extreme heat for extended periods of time. As you may guess, such treatment is hard on the battery and will reduce overall lifetime.

Motors: One of the benefits of hub motors is that they do not require regular servicing. In fact, our motors have no openings mostly to avoid build-up of dust, sand, and other contaminants that could interrupt motor circuitry or require consistent cleaning. However, that does mean our motors run hot. If you are riding in hot weather or extremely hot surfaces, you may need to reduce your riding time to avoid damage to your motors. Our motors have been tested up to 100 degrees Celsius but should only run less than 70 degrees Celsius for the least motor deterioration.

Wheels: Replacing worn out wheels on our Ride 1up boards is easy. If you start to notice significant chips or cracks in your wheel surface, it’s time to replace. For the rear wheels, simply unscrew your motor cover plate with the provided skate tool, firmly grab the back of the polyurethane wheel, and pull towards you. If you are having difficulty getting the wheel to slide off the motor, heat up the motor either by riding, or using a blow dryer to warm up the wheel.

Bushings: Always ensure the kingpin is at the proper tension. If your board makes a lot of creaking or squeaking noises. Rub some paraffin wax shavings onto the bushings, and that should keep the noise down.

Remote: The remote just like the board needs to be charged, although a lot less often. It is extremely important to leave your remote with plenty of battery life. Having the remote die on you while riding will leave you without brakes and is extremely dangerous. If you suspect damage to the remote from dropping or other issues that could cause interruption to your board connection, do not exceed speeds that may require immediate braking. As a good rule of thumb; always have a backup plan for remote disconnection and do not get yourself into a situation where loss of connection could lead you into a hazardous situation.

Tips

Before riding, test and tighten the trucks to your desired settings, try pressing on them to feel the resistance. Then, only ride in a confined area to ensure you have the right tension. You should be able to enjoy sharp carving turns while not having the board get wobbly at high speeds. If the trucks make a rattling noise, they are too loose.

When riding an electric longboard, we recommend a wider stance than you may be familiar with. This is helpful because you will be able to handle forward and backward “jolts” caused by poor remote control when learning to ride. Start on the lower speed settings to fully master the controls.

Owners

Usage

Do not ride in unsafe road conditions, such as rain or snow. We recommend the board be used on dry days as a commuter or travel board, but of course, it is also insanely fun to explore your local environment in. Do not let the battery in the board or remote get below 20% at any time. This is a great guideline for safety and for longevity of the battery. If the battery dies, you may put yourself in a dangerous situation in which the board is not responsive. Always have a way out of a dangerous situation and plan as if the board may die at any time.

Safety

Firstly, always wear a helmet when riding. Even with a helmet, electric skateboards can be dangerous. There are many steps you can take to reduce your risks. Do not ride at night, even with lights, it can be difficult to see bumps or rocks in the road. Never ride above your limits. It takes time to figure out your new board, do not go above speeds which you are comfortable with just because the board can. Higher speed settings are for experienced riders only and it is recommended to have additional padding beyond just a helmet. When starting out, do not test out the maximum speeds. Our electric longboards are not toys, and do not treat them as such. Riding an electric longboard is reserved for adults 18 and over

Yes. We offer a 30-day return policy if you are unsatisfied. Additionally, we cover all boards with a 6-month warranty. Please contact us should you experience an error with our product or software that is not due to user error. We will replace any defective parts.

Why are there less reviews than the bikes?
Our electric longboards were only released to the public in mid-February 2019, but we are building our reputation with the same principles as our bikes. Quality and happy customers come first.

What is the weight limit on the board?
We recommend a maximum weight of no more than 225lbs but we have tested the board up to 260lbs. However, no matter the rider weight, the deck can snap or be compromised if not used correctly. Please do not drop off high ledges with the board.

Can the wheels be replaced
YES, and we suggest buying a replacement pack of 4 wheels when you buy the board. All 4 available for only $26, select your favorite color.

Is the board available internationally?
The Bamboo Classic is currently available internationally on a trial international shipping program we are doing. For all other products, we are only shipping to North America. United States: Free. Canada: $25 Flat Fee. Mexico: $25 Flat Fee.

Is the board waterproof?
The boards are water-resistant, but not waterproof. Both decks are sealed, but do not submerge the boards in water.

Yes (except on the Carbon fiber board, battery replacement takes much longer.) Although there are 6 screws to remove. Turn of the board, unscrew the 6 screws holding the battery case using the provided tool, unplug the battery and swap. This process takes about 3-4 minutes. We sell backup/replacement batteries on our parts page.

Specs and Testing

Our products have been tested for thousands of miles. We conducted our range and speed tests on flat smooth paved surfaces with no headwinds or tailwinds using an 170lb test rider. Any variables to this equation could cause a difference in actual results. Other variables such as overly-tightened wheels, poorly lubricated bearings, or low battery power can make a significant impact on test results.  We do not exaggerate or make false claims regarding our product specifications and test results. If you are experience any issues regarding product performance, please contact us and we will work together to determine the issue. It is important to conduct any speed tests in a safe controlled environment, as the product speeds can be dangerous in a public setting.

eSkate production nearly begins

September 2018

We are finishing up the product molds for our last 3 new designs. The battery container, which will house our 10s3p Samsung 25r battery packs, will be smaller and lighter than existing battery enclosures, many of which are only able to contain smaller batteries. This is mostly because of our cell arrangement and use of space inside the enclosure. While aesthetic appeal was important, we did not want to sacrifice any interior space which was otherwise not absolutely necessary. Our key focus here was creating the maximum uninterrupted lateral deck spacing to allow the deck to flex like a traditional longboard. We have created a surface flexion area (the lateral distance between the two component cases) longer than any other board we have seen on the market. What this means for you; A smoother ride that carves and flexes more like a traditional longboard.

Our second mold currently going through final testing is our newest remote. We used our favorite and widely popular style thumb throttle grip remote and equipped it with an LCD display. It is easy to use, offers precise speed control and 4 speed settings with varied acceleration and top speeds. We have been working diligently 7 days a week in testing and adjustments and are nearing product completion. We aim to produce 500 fully inspected and tested eskate longboards by late December 2018. We apologize for not being available sooner, but we did not want to rush anything and risk production defects.
