This is my 3rd E-Bike and I am pretty disappointed with the Portola. In no particular order, these are my main issues:( 1. Uncomfortable seat. 2. Throttle lag time. 3. Will not achieve the claimed 28MPH with pedal assist. 4. Frequent recharging is needed. 5. Return policy 'under 20 miles' is buried in the fine print. 6. No handlebar height or depth adjustment. Some positive aspects:) 1. Semi easy to assemble (if you have some bike skills). 2. Seems sturdy and well built. 3. Lights work well. 4. Shifter, brakes, controls all work well.

I’m getting a lot of compliments when people see my Portola. I am a senior and I’m new to e-bikes. My knees and stamina are not what they used to be and I live in a very hilly area, so this bike is getting me outside for some exercise while making it pleasant. So far, I’m content with keeping it as a class two, and my pedal assist to level three and under. The throttle is great for getting me up long, steep inclines or for getting me moving quickly out of an intersection. The Portola is very well made and I love the bright color. I can leave the battery right where it is for charging, which is another plus. I don’t bother folding it because it fits in my bedroom, but the fold is handy when I ride to my daughter‘s house and don’t feel like riding back in the dark. So far, everything about the Portola is great!

Amazing bike. I am obsessed. I have been riding it everywhere. I highly recommend. I have the 13.4 Ah version. Range is not bad. I pedal quite a bit, because I enjoy the health benefits of working out. I am usually on PAS 3 or 4, and get a range of 25 to 35 miles. Brakes are wonderful. This bike stops fast. This is great for urban cycling. You can avoid crazy car people with good reaction time thanks to these brakes. The bike handles well. The center of mass is low, unlike a roadbike. Super stable. I have the Connect+ Passenger kit. It is better than I expected. It is very easy for me to take my girlfriend as a passenger. I live in an extremely hilly neighborhood, but the motor is so powerful that it doesn't matter. I also have the Connect+ Large Basket. It is very good for hauling stuff, such as my work bag with laptop, groceries, takeout food, potting soil, etc. This bike can handle most daily errands. I rarely use my car anymore... No complaints on the charger. It is a 2 Amp charger, my battery will go from 0% to 100% in around 6.5 hours. I prefer the 2 Amp charger over a more powerful one, because it extends the lifespan of my battery. I don't want a high current charger. Complaint 1: ghost pedaling begins at around 25 mph. In other words, the gear ratio isn't high enough for you to be able to transfer power. This is slighly annoying since my commute to work is 8 miles in each direction. I need >25 mph speed to minimize my commute time. I wish the chainring had more teeth. Complaint 2: There needs to be another PAS level between PAS 4 and PAS 5. PAS 4 outputs around 460 W. PAS 5 outputs more than 1000 W. For PAS 5, I don't want to put that much strain on the battery. Subjecting the battery to high currents will decrease its longevity. But, sometimes I want just a little bit more power than PAS 4, but less power than PAS 5. It would be nice to have 6 PAS levels instead of 5. The second to last PAS level could be around 700 W. And maximum PAS level can draw maximum current from the battery.

After 1000 miles I can confidently say the goods and the bad about this bike. The good things. 1- The price, even with the slight increase in price I would say it's still a lot of bike for the money. 2- The bike comes well assembled, tuned and basically as simple putting it together and riding it. 3- Switching from classes 1-3 is super simple and helps when your trying to go as fast. 4- This bike is very light and very easy to transport. 5- The suspension although simple helps with the comfort, the built into lights are also a nice to have. Now for the bad. 1- This is the most severe problem I have been experiencing, it started at around 600 miles. For some reason the motor or battery? Seem to overcharge and suddenly give 1000 watts of power. No warning or anything. This only happens on class 3 and affects PAS levels 2-5. It could be very dangerous for someone that isn't expecting such power output from the motor. The only way to fix is to turn the bike on and off. 2- At random times the motor will not power on after the bike is turned on. This also started happening at around the 600 mile mark. It takes me about 3 tries for the bike to finally turn on after that. The worst it's happened is 5 separate tries before the bike did anything. Other then those 2 problems the bike itself has held up very nicely. Mechanically everything still works very well. The brakes don't need bleeding and drivetrain is still shifting precisely. I will need to replace the tires and brake pads soon but that's some that can easily be done at home.

Power delivery and ride quality is better than expected. Motor is quite noisy and creates a resonance at high amps that vibrates the bike. Brakes could be smoother. Both wheels were slightly out of true when delivered.

How does the bike* fit? Please share your height/size and the frame type you ordered, if applicable. 6' - fits great with room to spare. Wish the handlebars were lower. Even at my height the riding position is too upright.

I have a couple Pedigo and Trek electric bicycles. I like their quality that’s why I purchased them. The ride 1 up is very competitive. The quality is pretty good. I don’t know the longevity of their battery yet but with the quality of everything, they’re pretty nice bicycles ,for the price. It was a goodbye. Minor assembly was easy. I am impressed.

How does the bike* fit? Please share your height/size and the frame type you ordered, if applicable. The bicycle fit is decent. I bought their folding bike again. Everybody height is different. Hard to accommodate everybody. I am 5‘10“ I would like to see a little more leg extension, but the bike fits pretty well.

After researching, I purchased the Portola E-bike a few weeks ago for my wife. It was quickly shipped to us, and it was very easy to assemble and start using right away. The bike is well-built, and everything works great. She now has no problem tackling our hills roads. I plan to purchase another one for myself shortly. Amazingly, this bike can handle me at 6′ tall and my wife at 4′ 11′ just by raising and lowering the seat. Adjusting the seat is very easy, and the seat is surprisingly comfortable. I have already started to recommend it to others.

How does the bike* fit? Please share your height/size and the frame type you ordered, if applicable. We ordered the Portola foldable bike. As noted in the above review my wife is 4' 11' and about 106 lbs. I specifically picked this bike because of her size and I wanted something that would be easy for her to get on and off of. I have also ridded it and found it quite comfortable, and I am 6' tall.
